FRED CELESTINO BACA
On June 8, 2025, Fred was peacefully called home, having lived a life full of love, laughter, family, and cherished memories. He was 90 years old.
Fred was born on July 28, 1934, in Agusta, Colorado to Alfredo and Seferina Baca. He was one of twelve children and graduated from Aguilar High School in 1952. He loved the Apishapa Valley area, spending most of his life in Trinidad and Bon Carbo, Colorado.
Fred worked as a mechanic for the City of Trinidad for 30 years, then with Pioneer Natural Resources, and later as a water-well driller. Outside of work, he was known and loved throughout. The community is a gifted musician. For over 35 years, Fred sang and played guitar and fiddle with his band, Freddy Baca & The Serenaders, performing at weddings, family reunions, rodeo events, and dance halls, including as the house band at El Rancho Club.
Together with his beloved wife, Priscilla, Fred also opened his heart and home as a foster parent for many years, helping support children in need with compassion and generosity. Freddy also had a deep love for horses and was a proud member of the Trinidad Riding Club. In his spare time, he enjoyed taking care of racehorses, telling jokes, and above all else spending time with friends and family.
Fred was preceded in death by his wife, Priscilla M. Baca (Lopez), his son Tommy (Jeralyn) Baca, his parents Alfredo and Seferina Baca, and many siblings: Mary (Albert) Mestas, Max (Vionna) Baca, Josephina (Julian) Romero, Ernie (Roselee) Baca, Fanny (Mark) Martinez, Geno (Marshall) Van Matre, Eloy (Beatrice) Baca, John (Maryann) Baca, Isabelle (Bob) Lucero, and Dolores (John) Vigil. He is survived by his brother Ralph Baca (Dolores (deceased)).
He is survived by his children Debra (Jeff) Dalrick, JoAnn (Jesse) Martinez, Ricky (Deb) Baca and Laurel Young; his grandchildren Jesse (Sara) Martinez, Sarah Baca, Tanya Gurule, Steven (Elizabeth) Madsen, Thomas D. Baca, Chalcey Baca, Randy (Jessica) Dalrick, Jeremy Martinez, Ryan Baca, Aaron (Donyelle) Dalrick, Tiera (Joseph) Mayet, Taylor Baca, Sophia Young, and Jayce Baca; great-grandchildren Brandaise (Justin Hale) Martinez, Tai (Sean) Chen, Zachary Gallegos, Hazell DiMillo, Greyson McPherson, Isaac Madsen, Austin Madsen, Evangeline Madsen, Isabella Gurule, Jeremy Martinez, Jayden Martinez, Kelton Dalrick, Dalton Dalrick, Ryan Baca, Jr., and Amelia Baca; and great-great grandchild Mila Gallegos.
Fred will also be lovingly remembered by his close friend Frances Molinaro, her family, and his many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Fred's family and friends are invited to celebrate his life and share stories about him. A rosary and memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Mullare-Murphy Funeral Home, 335 E. Main Street, Trinidad, CO 81082.
Fred's voice, his music, his humor, and his unwavering love for his family and community will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
