Claude Edward Scarbrough

Born: June 19, 1945 | Died: June 30, 2025

Claude Edward Scarbrough, age 80, of Maryville, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on June 30, 2025, just days after celebrating his 80th birthday surrounded by close friends and beloved family.

Born June 19, 1945, in Greenville, South Carolina, Claude lived a life marked by service, devotion, and love for his community. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy and later retired from the United States Air Force. A 32nd Degree Mason, Claude embodied the values of honor, integrity, and brotherhood throughout his life.

After his military service, Claude continued to serve the public through his work with the City of Alcoa, where he was both a dedicated fireman and the Chief Codes Enforcement Officer. His commitment to safety, service, and community left a lasting legacy

Claude was an avid outdoorsman who found great joy in hunting and fishing. He also cherished time spent playing cards with his friends and family.

Claude was preceded in death by his parents Claude and Alice Rieves and Faye "Scarbrough" and Edgar Tiemann; his brother Michael Rieves; father-in-law Quentin Gilliland; and sister-in-law Glenda Brown.

He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Debra Gilliland Scarbrough; his daughters Tammy (Kevin) Burchfield and Dara Stewart; grandchildren Hailey (Jake) Dunn, Jess (Kayla) Burchfield, Bradley, Emma, and Taylor Stewart; and great-granddaughters Paisley Dunn and Mazzy Burchfield. He also leaves behind his mother-in-law Jean Gilliland; brothers Charles (Lynn) Scarbrough and Gene Scarbrough; sister Claudia (Randy) Pullen; brother-in-law Fred Brown; sister-in-law Pam (Tommy) Everett; and numerous nieces, nephews, and many special friends who were like family to him.

Family and friends are invited to gather in celebration of Claude's life on Saturday, July 5, 2025, at Central Baptist Church in Alcoa (Springbrook Road). The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., with the funeral service to follow, officiated by Charles Bailey and Jim Haggard.

Claude will be remembered for his unwavering dedication, warm heart, and steadfast love for those around him. His legacy will live on through the many lives he touched. www.blountfuneralandcremation.com
