Colleen Damron Obituary

Gales Ferry - Colleen (McGill) Damron passed away peacefully Friday, July 18, 2025, with family by her side after a three-year valiant battle against colon cancer. She was 34.

Colleen was born Aug. 24, 1990, in Pittsburgh. She was a fighter from the beginning; she had several surgeries immediately after she was born, surviving and thriving and impressing the doctors and nurses who took care of her.

She spent much of her childhood in Colchester, graduating from Bacon Academy in 2009, and earning a degree in communications from Eastern Connecticut State University. She worked in a variety of roles from Washington, D.C., to Whidbey Island, Wash. Most of all, Colleen adored every minute of being a mom and loved her little girl beyond measure.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Blake Damron, and their four-year-old daughter, Audrey, both of Gales Ferry. Colleen is also survived by her loving parents, Kevin and Jennifer (Welsh) McGill of Colchester; and siblings, Kevin Jr. of Gales Ferry, Kimberly of New London, and Connor of Salem and his partner, Ariella Galitto. Colleen is also survived by her grandmother Alice Welsh of Niantic; and many aunts, uncles and cousins locally and in Pittsburgh. She leaves behind a supportive and loving circle of dear friends from her years in Colchester, including Sabrina (Camboulives) Arnold, Mohini (Mehta) Ashley and Alyssa (DiRubbo) Waitt, for whom Colleen's loss is vast and profound.

Colleen was the rarest of people: a careful listener who truly was focused on what the other person was saying, and a young woman who would do anything for anyone. To honor her, Colleen's family and friends ask that people give their loved ones the most important gift of all: listen to them and be present. Colleen will be deeply missed. The family would also like to thank Colleen's caregivers, Sandra and Kayla and all the staff at Smilow Cancer Hospital in New Haven.

Services are private. Donations in Colleen's memory in lieu of flowers are suggested to be made to the charity of the donor's choice. Please visit www.byles.com to sign the guestbook.

Yesterday

It was a privilege to be able to care for Colleen at Smilow. I was so inspired by her spirit and perseverance, her infinite love for her family, especially Blake and her precious Audrey, and the absolutely selfless will she had as a mother to give everything and do anything she could to seize each precious day and moment. She will be missed but never forgotten, at peace in a better world.

I only knew Colleen for a brief time, but during that time her incredible strength and bravery were readily apparent, as was her love for her daughter and family. I hope she has found some peace after a valiant battle.

Dear Colleen,
Seems like it was just yesterday we were all so excited because you were going to be born. Suddenly I was Aunt Penny for the very first time. You were so tiny and cute. Wayne and I are so proud of the beautiful young lady you grew up to be. Until we meet again, may you rest in peace, free from pain, in the arms of the Lord.
