Mary English, was a monumental talent, esteemed colleague and great supporter of students, staff and faculty-alike at Norwich Free Academy. Mary always took a special interest in new, young teachers and helped guide them toward a positive start with the many aspects of our campus life, it's various buildings, and their principles, our course curriculum for each department and most of all, for sharing introductions to faculty , most of whom she got to know well. These experiences came home to me, first through my mother, who had Mary as a cooperating teacher, and then myself, as I followed her into life as a faculty member in 1982. Mary found me out and through my first few years, she would initiate contact about finding our pedagogical ways to the development sound habits of student engagement while also issuing reminders to take time and seek new friends from neighbors who might have the same lunch schedules. Mary seemed to never let her mind rest before she would task it with another interaction that might help others, and always with a genuine smile.
