Christina Moore Obituary

Christina "Chris" Rae Moore, 91, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Friday, January 3, 2025, at her home. In agreement with her wishes, cremation has taken place. The family will greet friends from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Monday, January 13, 2025, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion, Iowa. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at the funeral home, with Pastor Mike Miller officiating. Inurnment will be at Lafayette Cemetery in Alburnett, Iowa. Chris was born on May 17, 1933, in Covington, Iowa, the daughter of Martin and Arnolia (West) Rawson. She attended Stony Point School and was a graduate of Roosevelt High School. On December 28, 1952, Chris was united in marriage to Calvin "Cal" Palmer Moore in Cedar Rapids. Chris's work experiences included Coe College and work as an Insurance Underwriter for Prudential Insurance Company and Macabee's Insurance Company. After retiring in northern Wisconsin, Cal and Chris returned to Cedar Rapids in 2000. Even though Cal's employment required many moves, Chris and Cal continued to be blessed with special neighbors and life-long friends throughout their lives. They volunteered at Brucemore for over 10 years, as well as the Alburnett Historical Society. They both received the Governor of Iowa Award for Volunteerism in 2010. They enjoyed traveling and took many trips abroad as well as within the United States. She was a member of the Marion Christian Church. Chris's appreciation for beauty and colors was expressed in many ways. Her painted folk-art items were highly sought after at craft events around the Midwest. Her home was always a delight as she decorated her house with her collection of seasonal pieces, many her own creations. Her desire to create also led her to take several painting classes. Quilting was a large part of her life and she leaves behind several beautiful pieces, some the results of her regular quilting sessions with her beloved sisters. Her wide interests in life and the world around her, coupled with a generous spirit and willingness to share, made Chris a person whose company and laugh were things to enjoy. She will be greatly missed. Chris is survived by her daughter, Suzanna (Donald Loscheider) Christina; grandchildren, Nolan Loscheider (Brianne Heath), Colin (Yaneli) Loscheider, and Courtney (Vincent) Miner; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Ada Olmsted; brother-in-law, Weir Nelson; sister-in-law, Ardis Moore; and a host of special nieces and nephews and great friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Cal Moore; two sons, Alan and Jeffrey Moore; three sisters, Arnolia Schmorr, Norma McVay, and Nadine Nelson; brother, Bill Rawson; and several half-siblings. Memorials in Chris's memory may be directed to Marion Christian Church. Please share a memory of Chris at www.murdochfuneralhome.com under obituaries.
