Richard Scofield Obituary

Richard James Scofield
Born: May 5, 1975 in Oak Lawn, IL
Died: June 6, 2025 in Elwood, IL
Richard J. Scofield, age 50, of Elwood, unexpectedly passed on June 6, 2025, leaving a legacy marked by genuine love for his family, avid enthusiasm for the outdoors, and boundless generosity. Born on May 5, 1975, in Oak Lawn, Illinois, Richard grew into a man whose selfless nature touched everyone he encountered.
Richard, cherished by his adoring wife Karen, was a loving father to Hunter and Emmi Scofield, as well as a bonus dad to Adam (Rachel) and Mitch Randles. His caring spirit will forever be remembered and sorely missed by his parents, Eileen Scofield and Dave (Carolyn) Scofield. Richard was the supportive brother of Jon (Eileen) Scofield, Megan (Ryan) Jackson, and Dave (Noni) Scofield, step brother of Dawn (Ben) Stanley and Craig (Laura) Lear and a fun-loving uncle to many nieces and nephews. His furry friends Zoey and Phoebe also held a very special place in his heart. Preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Alice and John Tobin, his paternal grandparents, Marjorie and Emil Scofield and his faithful canine companion Ruby.
A proud graduate of Lincoln-Way High School, Richard was known for embodying the very essence of a Renaissance man. His interests and skills were diverse, ranging from fishing and hunting to being a fervent supporter of the Chicago Bears and White Sox. Indeed, Richard was a Grill Master and was also celebrated for creating the ultimate Thanksgiving meals. His hands were rarely still, as he was always on the move-fixing what was broken and improving the lives of those around him with his talent for making things work.
Richard was simply described by his loved ones as handy and selfless. He dedicated his life to providing for his family and ensuring that they wanted for nothing. His generous spirit often extended beyond his kin, reaching into the community where he was always ready to lend a helping hand or a listening ear. A true friend to many, Richard's absence creates a void that will be deeply felt by all.
Per Richard's wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of Richard's life will take place on Sunday July 13th from 1pm - 5pm at Stone City VFW in Joliet on the corner of Rt. 53 and Laraway Rd., 124 Stone City Dr., Joliet, IL 60436.
Arrangements entrusted to Forsythe Gould Funeral Home, 507 S. State St., Manhattan, IL 60442, 815-478-3321, www.forsythegouldfh.com.
