Jo Becerra Obituary
Round Rock - Jo Ann Becerra, our loving mother, sister, cousin, aunt, niece, and friend departed this world peacefully on Sunday July 13th after a five year battle with ovarian cancer. She was born on October 10, 1969 in McAllen, Texas to Leonel Saenz and Teresa Natal Saenz, the youngest of five children. She was preceded in death by mother Teresa, dad Leonel, brother Ronaldo Javier Saenz, and half brother Don Matushek.
She is survived by her loving husband of 29 years, Ron Becerra (her Rock, as she liked to say), and three wonderful children, Victoria, Alicia, and Matthew, brother Leo Saenz Jr. (Peggy), sisters, Frances Saenz, and Gracie Salomon (Israel), stepmom Lupita, half brother Martin along with many nephews, nieces, cousins, four aunts, and one uncle.
Jo Ann was a graduate of McAllen Memorial High School in 1988 where she was co-captain of the high school drill team her senior year. She graduated from Texas A&M University in College Station in December 1993 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Engineering.
She moved to Austin in 1994 and began her working career at Applied Materials, staying for 20 years, before joining 3M, in 2013, where she was currently employed as Sourcing Specialist. Her work took her to many countries and she enjoyed experiencing all those cultures and sights.
Over the years, Jo Ann volunteered to mentor young children through Big Brother / Big Sisters of Central Texas, the RIF (Reading is Fundamental) program, Girls in STEM, and Latinas in STEM. She was also very active at her church, St. Elizabeth in Pflugerville, and served as a Religious Education teacher for years.
Jo Ann loved watching her kids play sports, especially volleyball. She was their devoted fan, always supporting their teams and traveling across the US to attend all their tournaments. Keeping up with family and cousins was also important to her and she diligently worked to keep everyone up to date and connected. Always on the go, when she did have some free time, two of her favorite activities were watching wrestling and enjoying a great blue coconut & grape raspa from Senor Snow.
Her loving smile, sense of humor, determination, and love of life will be greatly missed.
There will be a visitation and rosary at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home & Cemetery on Tuesday July 22nd from 5pm-8pm. The funeral service will be held at St Elizabeth's of Hungary Catholic Church in Pflugerville on Wednesday July 23rd at 10am, with the burial following mass at 11am at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home & Cemetery.
The family would like to thank Hospice of Austin, all her doctors, family, and friends who helped her throughout her battle with cancer.
