Joel Yanes Obituary
Joel's legacy is one of love and dedication. His greatest joy came from the simple blessings of life - caring for his beloved dogs, sharing laughter and love with his devoted wife, and spending precious time with his family. His family was the heart of his world, and every moment together was a memory in the making.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Jose & Margarita Yanes ; brother, Jose "Pepe" Yanes & his loving dog "best boy" Charlie.
Mr. Yanes is survived by his wife of 48 years, Ofelia Mireles Yanes; one son, Joel Abiel Yanes, Jr. (Rachel); two daughters, Jessica Marie Rocha (Felix) & Margaret Jo Yanes. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Amanda Rocha (Jomar Closner), Samantha Rocha, Abigail Rocha, Nicholas Yanes, Naya Yanes; one great-granddaughter, Skylar Marie Cruz & one great-grandson on the way.
A public viewing will be held today, Wednesday, August 13, 2025, from 2:00 PM - 9:00 PM at Salinas Funeral Home of Weslaco - Chapel of the Heavens, where family and friends may come to pay their respects and celebrate the life of this remarkable man.
In celebration of Joel's life, a Mass will be held at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Mercedes, TX on Thursday, August 14, 2025, at 9:00 AM, where all who knew and loved him are invited to gather in prayer and remembrance. Following the Mass, Joel will be interred with full military honors at the Rio Grande Valley Veterans State Cemetery at 11:00 AM, where his commitment to his country will be honored alongside his remarkable journey through life.
As we gather to reflect on Joel Abiel Yanes Sr.'s life, let us remember a man who embodied kindness, resilience, and love. He will be greatly missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him. May he rest in peace.
Funeral Arrangements have been entrusted to Salinas Funeral Home of Weslaco.
