Spartanburg, South Carolina - Hilliard Gregory Harvey, 73, passed away Monday, May 5, 2025, after a long battle with cancer. Before joining the Lord, he rested peacefully at home with the love of his life, Betty, by his side. He was born on March 14, 1952, in Spartanburg, SC. He was the first child of Hilliard "Buddy" McKendrick Harvey, Jr. and Margaret Gregory.

He is survived by his wife Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Mikell Harvey. He is also survived by his sister, Ruth Anne Lawson and her husband Dr. Richard M. Lawson of Beaufort, SC; and nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his brother, Glenn Taylor Harvey.

Greg graduated from Aiken High School (SC) in 1970. He received B.S. and M.S. degrees in Agronomy from Clemson University in 1978 and 1980 respectively. He first worked for Northrop King Company in the Mississippi Delta as a member of a cotton breeding team. In September 1983, Greg began a 26-year career with Clemson University Cooperative Extension Service as a County Extension Agent in Sumter County, SC.

As a member of the National Association of County Agricultural Agents and the South Carolina Association of County Agricultural Agents, Greg served in all of the state association roles. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Award at the national meeting in 1997. He was a past president of Sumter Lions Club.

Greg loved to spend as much time as possible outdoors. He had a deep appreciation for the beauty and wonder of nature. Seeing the beauty of God's creation every day strengthened his belief in the Almighty. Greg and Betty were fortunate to be able to see much of this natural beauty in travels to many states in this country and through some international travel. Greg loved his Savior, his family, and his country.

A memorial service will be held at The Church of the Holy Cross, 335 North Kings Hwy., 261, Sumter, SC, on Friday, May 9, 2025, at 12 p.m. with a graveside to follow.

A visitation will be held on Friday, May 9, 2025, one hour prior to services from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at The Church of the Holy Cross.
