Jimmy Jones Obituary

Jimmy Dale Jones, age 77, of Greenville, passed away Saturday, February 21st at the St. Louis University Hospital in St. Louis. He was born April 24, 1948 at Shook, MO, the son of Marvin Jones and Della (Fouts) Jones. 


He was married to Portia Robinson September 30, 1972. Jimmy received his Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from Southeast Missouri State University and taught in Greenville Elementary School. He worked for the Corp of Engineers as a part time Ranger through the Wappapello Lake office since 1985 and then full time after he retired from school. He was an Army veteran and a long time resident of Greenville.


Jimmy was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather that loved spending time with family and friends. He was a member of Shiloh General Baptist Church and he loved studying God's word. He loved playing cards especially Rook. He was extremely active and enjoyed biking through Old Greenville Park, hunting, kayaking and fishing at Wappapello Lake, and metal detecting. Jimmy loved to read and had an impressive book collection. He also enjoyed doing puzzles and playing with his dog Ginger who was his best friend. Jimmy loved the Greenville community and will be greatly missed by all his family and friends. 


Preceding him in death are his parents, Marvin and Della Jones and his brother, Delbert Lynn Jones.


Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Portia Jones, of the home, two children, Kimberly McDaniel and her husband Rick, of Williamsville, Brad Jones, of Poplar Bluff and one sister, Judy Link and her husband George, of Dexter, MO.


In addition, he is survived by six grandchildren, Trey McDaniel and his wife Allie, Trinity McDaniel, Talan McDaniel, Logan Jones, Rilyn Jones and Ryker Jones and one great grandchild, Maggie McDaniel


Visitation was held from 5-8 PM Thursday at the Morrison Funeral Chapel in Greenville. Funeral services were held at 11 AM Friday at the Shiloh Baptist Church in Shook with Bro. David Allen officiating. Freeman Fouts gave the Eulogy, Ira Tucker gave a testimony for Jimmy and Brad O'Dell provided special music. Talan McDaniel, Trey McDaniel, Logan Jones, Ryker Jones, Eddit Johnson, Randy Wilfong, Rob Roberts and Jerry Roberts served as Pall Bearers. Military Honors were given at graveside by the Unites States Army and Piedmont American Legion Post #281. Interment was in the Shiloh Church Cemetery.


Memorials for the Jimmy Jones Memorial Bench (to be placed on the walking trail) may be sent in care of the funeral home.
