Janice Daysh Obituary

Janice Daysh

Easthampton, MA - Janice Lillian Daysh (Theroux), born in Holyoke to Lionel & Yvonne Theroux on March 25, 1944. Janice passed away peacefully at home on February 2, 2025 after her brave 15 month battle with cancer. In her early working career, she worked on tobacco farms in Connecticut. She also worked at the lunch counter at Woolworths, General Dry Cleaners and the Lyman Curtain Factory, all located in Holyoke. She then worked in the bakery department at Stop & Shop in Northampton. Upon leaving Stop & Shop, she proceeded to take a teller position at Fleet Bank, which was then bought out by Bank of America where she became a head teller. At the end of her career, she worked at Easthampton Tool and Die, retiring in 2006.

Janice's favorite past times include her life long love of gardening, which included canning vegetables and making strawberry jam. She was an avid card player (Pitch and cribbage) at the American Post 224 and at the Community Center. She enjoyed 13 cruises with family and friends, traveling to Alaska, Hawaii, Caribbean Islands, Panama Canal and up the New England coast. She enjoyed multiple trips to Cape Cod with her friends Jim & Joan. Family was most important to her. She enjoyed family dinners, birthday celebrations, New Year's Eve parties including 50+ people to a Y2K party and any reason to gather together. Her evenings typically ended with her coveted nightly martini! (vodka on ice)

She is survived by her husband of 60+ years, Robert Allen Daysh, Sr., sons Robert Daysh Jr and his wife , Kendra, Steven Daysh and his wife Sheila, and Jason Daysh. Her siblings Richard Theroux and wife Joan, Robert Theroux, Lionel Theroux and wife Margaret and ten granddaughters: Audrey, Alexandra, Julia, Christina, Jayne, Kaitlyn, Samantha, Meghan, Sarah and Bridget, seven great grandchildren: Jovani, Vivian, Lucas, Colton, Callie, Norah, & Leo and one on the way, along with 20 nieces and nephews.

Janice was predeceased by her parents, Lionel & Yvonne Theroux, her sister Elaine Carroll, and her nephew Richard Theroux, Jr., her brother-in-law Ronald Daysh and mother-in-law Victoria and father-in-law, Clifford Daysh, sister-in-law Frances Theroux and her son Jason's fiancee, Kimi Hewes.

My sincerest condolences to the Daysh family, and especially to Rob, Kendra, and their children. I had the pleasure of having worked with Kendra, for several years; she made my job as a school-bus manager much easier by her dedication and professionalism. I probably crossed paths with Janice many times, with trips to Stop & Shop during my thirty years in the Pioneer Valley. Clearly, she was a vital, ambitious, and courageous woman; my supportive thoughts are with all of you.
