Joseph William Mangan, 80, of Wilkes-Barre, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2025, at home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Wilkes-Barre, a son of the late Bartholomew and Anna Cavanaugh Mangan. Joseph graduated from Meyers High School. He was a master plumber working for Wilkes University, and was the owner of Joe Mangan Plumbing & Heating. Joe treated all his customers like they were family. One of the joys of his life was spending time with his grandchildren.
Joseph was an avid golfer and dart player. He was a past president of Oak Grove Club, member of the F.O.P. and Hanover Township Notre Dame Club. Joe was a coach and sponsor of the Lee Park Little League baseball. Joe enjoyed watching the Philadelphia Eagles and Notre Dame football. One of Joe's most memorable experiences was traveling to Ireland to play golf, and watch Notre Dame play in Dublin.
He was preceded in death by his infant brothers: Jackie and Bart; and by his sister, Joan Merrick.
Joe is survived by his wife of 60 years, Sharon Erickson Mangan; and by his children: Kelly Paolello, Wilkes-Barre; Joseph Mangan and his wife Jennifer, Dallas; Erin Mangan, Wilkes-Barre; Kristin Klinges and her husband Eric, Wilkes-Barre. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Jared, Jesse, Shaylyn, Mackenzie, Sydney, Bria and Maya; whom he adored.
Funeral service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday from Nat Gawlas Jordan Funeral Home, Wilkes-Barre, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Robert Bellarmine Parish/St. Aloysius Church, Barney and Division streets, Wilkes-Barre. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joseph's memory to the Amedisys Foundation, Compassionate Care Hospice, 1444 E. Lackawanna Ave., Suite 218, Olyphant, PA 18447.
