Robert C. Williams Sr. passed away Jan. 18, 2025. He was 95.
The only child of Louise Turner and Robert J. Williams, he was born in Wilkes-Barre in 1929. He was a graduate of Elmer L. Meyers High School, and Penn State, with an associate degree in business administration.
A member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church, Bob attained the rank of Eagle Scout and served many summers as a camp counselor and bugler at Camp Acahela. He was a member of the Naval Reserve and performed with the Navy Band as a trumpeter.
In 1950, he began a career in the insurance industry that spanned 50 years. Early in his career, he also had a popular five-piece dance band that played at clubs and weddings throughout the area. In 1955, he established his insurance agency, the Robert C. Williams Insurance Agency Inc., which remains in operation today. A businessman with a variety of interests, he established Krispy Kreme doughnut shops in Wilkes-Barre and Kingston; owned nursing homes in Danville, Milton, and Blue Bell; and, in 1984, purchased Mill Race Golf Course in Benton, which he owned for thirty-five years.
Bob was a member of the Lions Club of Mountain Top, Irem Shrine, and Caldwell Consistory, and was a past president of King's College Advisory Council.
With his late wife Leona, they maintained homes in Mountain Top, Naples, Fla., and Beach Haven, N.J., where they enjoyed deep, lasting friendships.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, the former Leona Kelly, in April 2024.
He will be greatly missed by his children: Barbara Williams, Robert C. (Rick) Williams Jr., Nancy Bolton, and Abigail Reed; four grandchildren; and a cousin, Haydn Evans.
Bob's family extends their heartfelt thanks to the caring staff at the Meadows Nursing Center for the wonderful care provided to their Dad over the past year.
Bob's family will celebrate his life privately.
