Komdat, Albert William
POESTENKILL - Albert William "Bill" Komdat 88, of Grandview Drive, passed away on Friday, July 4, 2025, at the Van Rensselaer Manor, after a period of declining health. Born in Troy and a lifelong resident of Poestenkill, Bill was the son of the late Erich J. Komdat and Grace M. Abbott Komdat; and the husband for 68 years of Eleanore Hultgren Komdat.
Bill was a graduate of the Averill Park High School Class of 1954. He started his career at New York Telephone, now Verizon, after high school. He spent many years as a switchman in Albany and, at the time of his retirement in 1988, was a Central Office Foreman. He was a member of the Pioneers.
Bill enjoyed working with his hands, including woodworking, making furniture for his family. At one time, he had a large vegetable garden and, more recently, enjoyed feeding and watching the many birds that came to the bird feeders; and he loved his chocolate.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include his son, Timothy W. (Mary) Komdat of Averill Park; his daughters, Heidi C. (Glenn) Thomas of Spring, Texas, and Tanya M. (Michael) Winheim of Zion, Ill; his brother, Erich J. (Joanne) Komdat Jr. of Kennesaw, Ga.; his grandchildren, Katie, Jessica, Kimberly, Elisabeth, Karoline, Timothy, Stephen, and Sylvia; and a great-granddaughter, Julia. Bill is also survived by his canine friend, Jack.
Funeral service at 10 a.m., Friday, July 11, 2025, at the Perry-Komdat Funeral Chapel, 2691 N.Y. 43, at Glass Lake, Averill Park.
Relatives and friends are invited and may also call 4-7 p.m., on Thursday, July 10, 2025, at the Funeral Chapel.
Interment in Brookside Cemetery, Poestenkill.
