James Madigan Obituary

Madigan, James
BRISTOL, Tenn. - James Joseph Madigan, age 73, of Bristol, Tenn., passed away, Thursday, July 17, 2025, at Bristol Regional Medical Center. He was born on May 22, 1952, in Troy, N.Y., son of the late James Madigan Sr. and Madeline Sheldon Madigan. James called the Bristol area home for the last seven years, though he spent the majority of his life in Melrose, N.Y., where he worked as a project manager for the State of New York. He was a former drummer in a band, music and family were his life. James was a volunteer firefighter in Melrose, he was an avid hunter and fisherman, loved jokes and was known as a prankster.
James was preceded in death by his sister, Sharon Lauko; in addition to his parents.
Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Nancy Riley-Madigan; daughter, Elizabeth Madigan and fiancé Erica Gedney; sons, Ian Madigan and wife Liz, and Joseph Madigan and wife Sarah; sister, Connie Madigan and husband, Dan Luttinger; grandchildren, Paul, Tessa, Thomas, Davis, and Maximus; brother, John Madigan and partner, Bonnie Strong; several nieces and nephews.
"Feel no guilt in laughter, he'd know how much you care.
Feel no sorrow in a smile that he is not here to share.
You cannot grieve forever; he would not want you to.
He'd hope that you could carry on the way you always do.
So, talk about the good times and the way you showed you cared,
The days you spent together, all the happiness you shared."
In Lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Melrose Fire Department.
Join us for a celebration of Jim's life on August 3, 2025, 1 to 3 p.m., at the Rustic Barn, 150 Speigletown Rd., Troy, N.Y. 12182
