Jerome Bennett Obituary

Jerome Patrick Bennett "Jerry"

Jerome Patrick Bennett, "Jerry," age 56, of Lorain, Ohio, died Sunday, June 15, at his home, surrounded by loved ones. Jerry was born on March 18, 1969, and the world is a better place because of it.

He was born and raised in Ottawa Lake, Michigan, on his family's orchard. His father, James Bennett, instilled a strong work ethic in Jerry as he grew his business, Toledo Caisson. Jim built a company for and with his family that would help many of his children, grandchildren, and many others support their own families. Working for Toledo Caisson, helping build a successful company alongside his family, filled Jerry with pride and set a shining example of hard work and dedication for his own children. Plus, Jerry loved playing with trucks. Jerry could drive across many states and point out buildings, bridges, signs, and towers he himself had a key part in building.

Jerry's mother, Jacquelyn Bennett, raised her own large family, but also set a beautiful example of caring and compassion by helping other families in need through her many years of charitable work at the Ronald McDonald House. Jerry embodied her example with a soft heart, full of love and compassion, that touched so many people in this world.

Jerry's many brothers and sisters were no doubt a source to build his insanely strong wit and infectious humor. Jerry spent countless hours laughing with his sisters, Jane (Glen) Berry, Janis (Howard) Miller, Jennifer (Jake) Gross, and Jill (Gary) Morris; and his brothers, James (Lisa) Bennett, and John (Roben) Bennett. John and Jill preceded Jerry in death.

Jerry met Jessica and they fell quickly and deeply in love. They married in 2003, and had a love for one another that is the fabric of stories. Jerry's family grew instantly as Jessica's family embraced him as a cherished son, brother, and uncle of their own. Jerry and Jessica filled one another's hearts with so much love and joy, they had to grow their own family to share. Julianna, Jonas, and Jude were Jerry's absolute crowning achievement in life. Jerry was so full of love for and pride in his children it was palpable. He loved to play with them, work with them, snuggle with them, take them on adventures, tuck them in bed at night, and tell them he loved them every chance he got. He has built a legacy for them, with them, and in them that will last them a lifetime. He was the best Daddy a kid could ever ask for.

Jerry was loved by so many. All are welcome to attend a celebration of a man larger than life on June 22, at German's Villa, in Vermillion, from 1:00-4:00 p.m. Lunch will be available throughout the afternoon. We will toast Jerry at 2:00 p.m. We hope to spend the day honoring Jerry with laughter and love, and hope you will be a part of his last great party.

We have been part of Jessica's life since her toddler days. It was a privilege to be part of Jerry's and of their family as well. I loved the photos I was sent of Jerry playing with his kids and laughing with his wife. The love in this family was obvious to all and will live on.
