Mary O. Henry

October 22, 1926 - March 9, 2025

Mary O. Henry, 98, formerly of Toledo, Ohio, passed away peacefully at Burcham Hills Retirement Community in East Lansing, Michigan, on Sunday, March 9, 2025. She was born on October 22, 1926, to the late Ralph J. and Bernice (Swisher) Oechsler in Sylvania, Ohio. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, her loving heart, positive outlook, warm hugs, and gentle back scratches will not soon be forgotten.

Mary grew up in Sylvania, Ohio, graduating from Burnham High School and then attending The Ohio State University, where she met her future husband, Frederic C. "Mike" Henry, M.D., whom she married on June 12, 1946. As the consummate wife and mother, she supported her family in all endeavors, cooking tasty meals and sewing elaborate Halloween costumes and beautiful prom dresses. She was also dedicated to her community and volunteered for various organizations including Mobile Meals and the Toledo Museum of Art. Mary enjoyed many winters in Florida and loved the outdoors, fishing for salmon in Alaska, for trout in Michigan, and bird watching. Her favorite activity, however, was spending time with her family.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Frederic C. "Mike" Henry, M.D.; and an infant son, Frederic C. Henry II; her parents; and her sister, Dorothy A. Oechsler. Survivors include her daughters, Anne E. Henry of Seattle, Washington; Susan H. Ford (Thomas) of Cincinnati, Ohio; and Rebecca C. Henry (David Wright) of Laingsburg, Michigan; grandchildren, Jonathan F. Bleeke, Jennifer A. Diamond (Josh), Matthew R. Ford (Halle), Rebecca F. Hanley (Mike), and Cameron D. McCague (Brad); and 8 great-grandchildren. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions can be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
