Richard "Rich" S. Juers

1940 - 2025

Richard Steffens Juers, known for his infectious grin, passed away at the age of 84, at the Edward and Marion Knight Hospice Center in Perrysburg, Ohio, on Wednesday, July 9th, 2025.

Born on August 12th, 1940, in a farmhouse on Matzinger Road in Toledo, Ohio, Richard "Rich" was the youngest son of Metta and Henry Juers. He was raised on a farm in Oak Harbor, Ohio, alongside his siblings, Jean (Earl) Clark, Milton (Mary) Juers, Kate Juers, and Joanne (Dick) Turner. A true farm kid at heart, Richard maintained a deep love for the outdoors throughout his life. He found joy in hunting, fishing, gardening, birdwatching, and simply appreciating the beauty of nature.

Richard's family moved to Oak Harbor, Ohio, during his Sophomore year of high school. Rich proudly attended Oak Harbor High School. He was a track star, noted for his athleticism, and according to his Senior Will in his yearbook "a pair of shapely legs." Richard graduated from Oak Harbor High School in 1958.

Though grounded in his humble beginnings, Richard lived a life full of adventure. He served as a Military Police Officer in the U.S. Army during his twenties, with his final post in Alaska. A dedicated tradesman, he worked for many years as a bricklayer with A.A. Boos & Sons and was a proud, longtime member of the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers, contributing over 50 years to the organization. Outside of work, Richard traveled extensively across the United States and visited Mexico, the Bahamas, and Canada.

His children fondly recall time spent traveling across the globe, which included donkey rides down the Grand Canyon and chasing sunglasses up the Eastern seaboard. His grandchildren fondly recall time spent fishing at the cabin and his daring spirit-best captured by his annual rides on the Raptor at Cedar Point. Whether in nature or in amusement, Richard's vibrant spirit made lasting memories.

Richard is survived by his beloved wife, Sandra Sue Juers (Kelley); sisters, Jean Clark and Joanne Turner; daughters, Kelley (Michael) Minahan and Shannon (Donald) Miller; grandchildren, Karyle Miller and Captain Brennan (Lena) Miller (U.S. Army); great-grandson, Landon Gordy; and many nieces and nephews. Family meant the world to Rich - he even shared and noted his love for his family as he entered hospice. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Unfortunately, near the end of his life, Richard faced significant medical challenges that he fought courageously until the end. The family extends heartfelt thanks to the medical staff at St. Charles Hospital in Oregon, Ohio, and the Edward and Marion Knight Hospice Center in Perrysburg, Ohio, for their compassionate care during Richard's final days.

Upon his request, a small, private celebration of life will be held for Richard at Jasin-Hoening of Toledo, Ohio.
