ELIZABETH CITY - Homer (Tony) Simpson, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 27th, 2025, at the age of 86. Born in 1939, Tony lived a life full of love, laughter, and devotion to his family and passions of loving his life.
A proud resident of NC for the past 24 years, Tony was known throughout the community not just for his green thumb but also for his ever-present Philadelphia Eagles attire. His love for vegetable gardening bloomed as brightly as the flowers he tenderly nurtured, mirroring the care and attention he devoted to his family and friends.
Tony's love for his family was the cornerstone of his life. He leaves behind his devoted wife, Lois Simpson, whose hand he held through countless years of shared life. He was a cherished father to John Taylor (Andrea) and Billy Taylor (Colleen) and a proud grandfather to Ryan Taylor, Ethan Taylor, and Catlin Taylor. Tony's extended family, Mary Taylor, the Allen family of Baltimore, sister in law Diane Paul (Philip) of NJ, Brother James Given (Cindy) plus numerous friends will all remember him with fondness and warmth.
His sister Janie Allen and brother James Allen have both predeceased him.
Known for his resilience and determination, Tony always sought to do things himself, taking joy in his independence and steadfastly watching over his grandchildren as they grew. His commitment to being a good citizen shone through in every endeavor, from his support for many.
A veteran of the Army, Tony's sense of duty never faded, serving as a testament to his character and dedication. His memory will remain bright in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him, each one touched by his humor, kindness, and loyalty.
Tony's legacy will live on through the lives and gardens he tended with care and the love he spread throughout his town. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten. Rest in peace, Tony.
