Family
I want to thank my Family, Pastor Steve Bane and staff, Living Evidence Church, The Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association, Chapter 22-11, Mount Pleasant, PA, The Pennsylvania Army National Guard, 1-110th Infantry Honor Guard, Senior Life, His Neighbors at Timber Ridge Apartments, and Westmoreland Hospital for their support during this difficult time for our family. My Dad, James Hixson, passed away on Tuesday, May 6. We were notified by Westmoreland Hospital at 2230. Jim Was an Air Force Veteran from 1957 to 61. His service included a peacetime tour of Saudi Arabia for 13 months, where he was with a team on missions from a control tower to locate missing airmen who were in accidents involving aircraft. There are no plans except to get his affairs in order and to plan his service with Caruso's Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant.
He was a good father who encouraged me to join the military service, to serve until I retired. He did not coddle me and set me up to be responsible. I had to figure out a lot of things on my own.
To this, I am grateful.
It is more difficult to write about than to have him pass. He deserves dignity, and I pray the Lord Jesus will welcome him with open arms. He suffered from a long military tour in Saudi Arabia, a divorce from his first wife, Margaret Beal, and the loss of his second wife, Rebecca, on April 29, 2022. He went on with his life the best he could with his children, Bob, Allison, Lori, and Louise. Senior Life kept him in his home, supporting him until it became too difficult for him to live on his own, 19 April 2025, due to a bout with Pneumonia. The illness sent him to Westmoreland Hospital. It was discovered that a mass developed in his right lung that was cancerous. Jim was determined to live as long as he could to include intubation, until the ICU doctor explained to him in Bob's presence, that this would not be good and only prolong his suffering. The cancer involved 10% of his body, and it was not curable. Jim agreed to a peaceful rest with his last meal, shrimp scampi from Red Lobster. DR. Suggested that the family come to visit him for the last time. His daughter Allison and Bob's wife Kim came by his side for one last time. Jim's eyes lit up when he saw them. Daughter Allison attempted to feed him, but Jim could only try to eat this meal. After about two bites, it was determined that he would not be able to eat the meal.
I did not have the strength to watch him pass, and at 1900 HRs, 6 May, I went home.
We thank the staff at Westmoreland Hospital for their love and support during his last hours, especially RN Holly, who holds a special place in our hearts.
He passed 2200 HRs on 6 May 2025.
Respectfully,
Robert Hixson
