Charles Smouse Obituary

Charles Edward Smouse Sr., 81, of Upper Burrell Township, died Wednesday, May 5, 2010, in Forbes Regional Hospital, Monroeville. He was born April 3, 1929, in Punxsutawney, a son of the late Fred and Alverda Striffler Smouse. He attended and graduated from Plum Senior High School. He lived in the Alle-Kiski Valley his entire life. He was employed for Ingalls Iron in Verona as a cranesman for 30 years. Charles served in the Army from 1950 to 1952 in the Tank Battalion during the Korean War. He was a member of the Kiski Valley Assembly of God, Leechburg. He enjoyed doing Find-a-Words, fishing and playing the harmonica. Charles was a true man of faith who enjoyed going to church and reading his Bible, but especially loved spending quality time ministering to his children and grandchildren, always telling them stories and singing with them. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers, Mernice, Richard, Fred, Lemuel, Arthur and Jewel Smouse; and one grandson, Scott Gregoire. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Betty (Montgomery) Smouse, of Upper Burrell; children, Joyce Newman, of Natrona Heights, Carol (Roy) Lindemuth, of Vandergrift, Charlene (Daniel) Gregoire, of Sarver, and Charles Smouse II, of Upper Burrell; six grandchildren, Shannon Keller, Holly Livingston, Victoria Smouse, Charles James "C.J." Smouse, Katie Smouse and Danielle Gregoire; and two great-grandchildren, Jayden and Adrionna Carter. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the JOSEPH J. CARDARO FUNERAL HOME, a service oriented funeral home, 1125 Kenneth Ave., New Kensington, 724-337-3325.
