REBECCA HOWELL Obituary

Rebecca Sue Howell, lovingly known as Becky, Ms. Becky, and Nana, passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on July 19, 2025, at her home in Sonora, California, surrounded by her family. She was 68 years old.
Becky was born on Dec. 20, 1956, in Lodi, California, to Gene and Loraine Wilburn. She grew up in Galt, spending her childhood serving in her father's church and exploring the farmland of the Central Valley. She met the love of her life, Ed Howell, through her older sister, and the two were married for 48 years. Shortly after their marriage, they settled in Tuolumne County to raise their family and begin a life of service together.
For over three decades, Becky faithfully served as the director of Children's Ministries at Sierra Bible Church. Her heart for children was evident in every lesson taught, every event planned, and every hug given. She ministered to countless young lives, ensuring that each child knew they were seen, valued, and deeply loved by Jesus. Her husband, Ed, served by her side in every season of ministry, sharing in her unwavering dedication.
Becky is survived by her beloved husband, Edward; her three sons and daughters in-law, Ben and Echo, Travis and Victoria, and Dustin and Brooke; her six cherished grandchildren, Kiersti, Erilynn, Jayden, Taj, Gracelynn and Avery; and her two sisters, Linda Shipman and Lori Martin. She was preceded in death by her parents and her older brother, Michael Wilburn.
A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, 2025, at Sierra Bible Church in Sonora. All who knew Becky or were touched by her ministry are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor to the Wagon Train Campership Fund at Hume Lake Christian Camps.
Becky lived with fierce intention and a heart wholly devoted to sharing the love of Jesus Christ. Though her presence will be deeply missed, we rejoice in the knowledge that she is now in the glorious arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. We await with hope the day we will celebrate together again in the life to come with our faithful warrior, Becky. "…neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all of creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord." - Romans 8:39

From the time I started going to SBC and decided to serve in the kids ministry I met Becky. What a wonderful sweet lady. She put her heart and soul in kids her Ed worked and worked and gave love to the church. I have missed seeing your faces at the door and serving along with you. You left a wonderful legacy that Rachel has carried on and made her own. You will be missed. I love You Becky.

During our time living in Sonora we witnessed the passion and dedication Becky showed to children at Promiseland and sharing her love of Jesus. We also served on a number of community outreaches with Becky and witnessed her warmth and generosity. She changed and influenced many young lives over the years.
Our thoughts and prayers are with her husband Ed and her extended family.

Becky - We met @ Sonora parent nursery school , many years ago... Where many of us "young mother" sent our kids to start school, to learn how too play with others and the hardest (being away, from their Moms) . Well our kids met first in nursery school and then reunited in high school. Even though our life got very busy - Becky and I would run into each other at the stores and we would carry on about our kids and grandkids. ( life Catchup time ) . Becky was always so always proud and cherished her family . You will be missed dear friend. Janet Santoro

Becky Howell was my Sunday school teacher growing up until we moved churches due to distance when I was 12. She had a heart of gold and so much passion. She was a very important figure in me and my siblings´ lives along with so many children. We are sending our prayers and we know that she has finally found peace with the lord. He just wanted her to finally come home because her purpose had been fulfilled. Jesus blessed the world with her existence to solely share the gospel, and she did exactly that. Sending love from the Fowler family. <3

I remember Becky taking hold of our son, Matthew's hand, as he waited nervously, but excitedly to board the bus on his first adventure at summer camp. She made a lasting impression on our son, who is now a 21-year old man and strong in his faith.
I am eternally grateful to her for her grace under pressure as we navigated court-ordered supervised visitation at SBC. She was a blessing, a light, and a joy to all who knew her.
