Michael Rucker Obituary

CABLE – Michael "Mike" Anderson Rucker, 77 of Cable, passed away on Monday, June 23, 2025 in Mercy Health – Urbana Hospital

He was born on June 27, 1947 in Dayton to the late Harold and Audrey (Georgousis) Rucker.

Mike graduated from West Carrollton High School in 1965. He proudly served in the United States Army, stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War. Mike went on to earn a Bachelor's Degree in Education from Morehead State University.

While at Morehead, he played football and met the love of his life, Janet Vaughan, and they were married on Dec. 20, 1969 in Flemingsburg, Kentucky. He began his teaching career at Triad High School, where he taught Industrial Tech and coached several sports, including football, basketball and track. Mike went on to teach and coach football at Kenton Ridge High School. While there, he earned his Master's Degree in Education from Wright State University. Mike retired from Kenton Ridge after many hardworking years. He was also a dedicated member of the Mt. Carmel Friends Church.

In his free time, he enjoyed working on the farm and building small projects – especially quilt racks for each of his children. He also loved attending Blue Jackets, Reds, Clippers, and OSU games with his son. More than anything, Mike cherished watching his grandchildren at their sporting events.

He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Janet M. Rucker; children, Stacy (John) Millice and Mark Rucker; grandchildren, Audra and Ashtyn Millice; sisters, Tonya (Bob) Allbery and Kim Krug; brothers-in-law, Clem Aselage and Steve Kinney; sister-in-law, Linda (Bob) Richardson; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Mike is preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law, Louis and Erna Vaughan; siblings, Sherry Aselage and Teresa Kinney; as well as brother-in-law, Duke Vaughan.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 10 a.m.- noon on Wednesday, July 2, 2025 at Mt. Carmel Friends Church, 3470 Kennard-Kingscreek Rd., Cable, Ohio 43009.

A memorial service will follow at noon on Wednesday in the church with Pastor Jordan Millice officiating. Burial will take place at Mt. Carmel Cemetery.

Arrangements have been entrusted to FRESHWATER, MCDONALD & VERNON FUNERAL HOME, North Lewisburg, Ohio.
