Reginald Hathorn Obituary

Reginald Thayer Hathorn

Huntington, VT - Reginald Thayer Hathorn

June 26,1946 - July 25, 2025

After a long and courageous goodbye, Reginald "Reg" Hathorn passed away peacefully on Friday, July 25, 2025.

Born in Hanover, New Hampshire, and raised in White River Junction, Vermont, Reg's early years were shaped by the values of hard work, curiosity, and a deep love for the outdoors. After graduating high school, he proudly served in the U.S. Navy. Thanks to the GI Bill, he went on to earn a degree in Economics from Johnson State College in Vermont.

Reg's passions were unmistakable: fishing, boats of every kind, and motorcycles. He turned that passion into a business, opening a motorcycle shop in Lebanon, New Hampshire with his future wife Lucinda, where they sold Honda and Suzuki bikes. After five successful years, he sold the shop to pursue new adventures.

Eventually settling in Huntington, Vermont, Reg built our family home - and then built a garage to construct his own fishing boat. He spent countless hours on Lake Champlain and later many years fishing Lake Ontario. When not in his boat, he could often be found along the banks of the Salmon River in Pulaski, New York in pursuit of steelhead. In his later years, he embraced saltwater fishing in the Florida Keys with the same energy and enthusiasm that defined his life. He often said, "Life's too short" and he lived by those words every day.

Reg is survived by his closest friend and beloved wife, Lucinda, and their cherished daughter Katherine. He also leaves behind his brother Brian Hathorn (Shiela) and five nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by loved ones who no doubt welcomed him with open arms.

A man of integrity, loyalty, and quiet strength, Reg will be deeply missed by all who knew him. We are forever grateful for the endless memories, laughter, and the lessons he shared with us.

A Remembrance gathering will be held at his home - 310 Ross Hill Rd., Huntington, Vt. - on Saturday, August 9, 2025, from 2:00PM to 5:00PM. All who knew and loved Reg are welcome to join us in celebrating his remarkable life.

Reg was Richard's first friend when he moved to WRJ in 1958. They remained friends for 67 years, most recently in Florida and Vermont. We were lucky enough to say our farewells last month and Reg still had his little "chuckle" when talking about past times and the "mischief" he and Rich (as Reggie always called him) got into in their teenage years. Farewell friend - we will miss you.

I say goodbye to one of my closest childhood friends.

(Our fathers , George Desnoyers and Rip Hathorn, were friends and in business together for decades.)

Unfortunately I moved away from the area some fifty years ago and lost touch, but I often thought of Reggie.

Brian and family, we send our sincere condolences. I couldn´t believe this when I saw it knowing you just lost a sister. Reggie was a "babysitter" for me and my brothers when we were young and my parents(Jean and Richard Henderson) wanted to have an outing. May those special memories you have provide much needed comfort and strength to you.

As One of my Dad´s (Steve Hastings) good friends when I was growing up, Reggie was always fun to be around. I hope they can ride motorcycles together in heaven.
