Amory Stansfield Obituary

Amory Cook Stansfield of Manchester, CT, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 11, 2025 surrounded by her husband of 59 years, Jason C. Stansfield, her sister Elizabeth Cook Gabel and her brother-in-law, Virgil J. Gabel also of Manchester. Amory was the youngest of the four Cook children, and is preceded in death by her father, Aaron Cook IX, her mother Elizabeth LaShay Cook, her brother Aaron Cook X, and her sister, Reverend Jean Cook Brown. Amory was a life-long resident of Manchester and grew up at the old Manchester Green. She graduated from Manchester High School class of 1960. As a teenager, she loved to Thursday night shop on Main Street. Amory met her husband, Jason, while attending the Manchester Green elementary school. Once married, they decided that Manchester was the perfect place to raise their three children, Jason, Jed and Julie. Amory was a volunteer fixture at Verplanck elementary school and later a part of the paraprofessional staff there. She served as president of the PTA for a number of years. When not volunteering, Amory could be found in the stands at Manchester High School cheering on her kids during all of their activities Later, Amory spent 22 years as a paraprofessional in the Bolton School system. She loved working with "her" kids and advancing public education. She made lifelong friends in Bolton, and after retirement maintained a regular luncheon get together with Bolton "BRATS" A childhood spent on Coventry Lake turned into adulthood in Moultonborough, NH on Lake Winnipesaukee. Amory looked forward to her summers at the lake. Even though Amory thoroughly enjoyed Connecticut winters- especially the snow, she counted the days until spring knowing that soon she'd be back "on the boat" cruising the lake in search of the best picnic spots. The most important thing for Amory was family and friends. Whether you knew her as Amory, Aunt Mimi, or Mrs. S., you knew Amory was one of a kind. She loved a good joke, or a funny story. She was most happy when she connected with her children, their friends, and her extended family and friends. She did her best to keep up with everyone. The holiday season was her favorite, giving her the excuse to dress festively, while attending any number of parties and spending time with those she loved. She never missed a Thanksgiving Day Road Race, and would host a sit down dinner for 25 without missing a beat, all in the same day. In addition to her husband, Jason, her sister, Beth, brother-in-law, Jared W. Stansfield and his spouse Silvia Coulter, and many nieces and nephews, Amory is survived by her three children, Jason C. Stansfield of Windham, NH, Jed F. Stansfield of Seattle, WA, and Julie Stansfield Cabus of Springfield, VA, their spouses, Rebecca, Nicole, and Edward and her beloved grandchildren, Mackenzie, Alexa, Tatum, Leland, Gavin and Rory Elizabeth. If you ever asked Amory about her kids, their spouses or her grandchildren, you had better have more than a few minutes to spare. She was incredibly proud of all of them and never hesitated to travel across the country and the world to visit her children and their families, babysit grand-dogs, and cheer on her grandkids as they all learned to water-ski on Lake Winnipesaukee. Arrangements will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Amory's name to the Manchester Historical Society (https://manchesterhistory.org/) or the Bolton Scholarship Fund https://www.boltonscholarshipfund.org/CEA – Bolton Education Association Scholarship.)
