Marcia Andrus Obituary

Marcia T. Andrus (nee Turshen) passed away peacefully on July 5, 2025, at the age of 91. She was born in Brooklyn, New York on April 29, 1934 and raised in Amston and Hartford, CT. She is the daughter of the late Martin Turshen and Stella Turshen (nee Rabinowitz) of Hartford, CT. She is the devoted wife of Dr. Lawrence (Larry) J. Andrus for 68 years. Marcia is also survived by her children Abbe A. Tegzes and her husband, Ret. USMC Major Jeffery Tegzes, and Eric C. Andrus and his wife Dena S. Sturm. She is the cherished "Nana" to Matthew A. Tegzes and Caroline A. Koch (nee Tegzes) and her husband Christopher Koch; and of Marley G. Andrus and Alec A. S. Andrus. She was predeceased by her brother, Ret. USAF Lt. Col. Stephen B. Turshen. A lifelong reader and avid lover of books, Marcia served as President of the South Windsor Public Library Board of Directors. She received a lifetime achievement award in 2016 from The Association of Connecticut Library Boards for her four-plus decades of service to her local public library board. A devoted bell collector, Marcia served as President and Treasurer of the American Bell Association (ABA), and chaired or co-chaired many annual ABA conventions. When Larry served as the founding president of Temple Beth Hillel in South Windsor, CT, Marcia served as founding president of the congregation's sisterhood. She loved antiquing, The Sunday New York Times Crossword Puzzle, iced coffee, summers at the family cottage on Amston Lake, CT, and travelling and cruising with her family to destinations around the world from Turkey and Israel to New Mexico and England. She also served as a volunteer for several of U.S. Senator Christopher Dodd's successful re-election campaigns. Marcia is a graduate of Weaver High School in Hartford, CT and received her associate's degree in dental hygiene. She worked as a dental hygienist while Larry was in dental school at Temple University. Marcia went on to serve as the hygienist for the South Windsor School System for many years.
