John Wight Geyer, of Albion, Michigan, passed away peacefully at the age of 76 on June 9, 2025, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease.
He is survived by his wife, Cindy Geyer, his sister, Pamela Kail, his daughter Betsy (Geyer) Sedore and her husband Steve, and grandsons, Griffin and Cooper Sedore. His parents, Robert and Patricia Geyer, his sister, Linda Geyer, and his son, Fred "Phred" Geyer all predeceased him.
John graduated from Albion Senior High School, attended Northern Michigan University in Marquette, Michigan, for a year, and then enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He trained to be an electronics technician and served aboard the USS Vallejo nuclear-class submarine for six years. He married the love of his life, Cindy Hume, and they lived in Virginia, where Fred was born, and South Carolina during his Navy years.
After serving in the US Navy, John and Cindy moved to Missouri, and then to Albion, where Betsy was born. John worked in Battle Creek as a civilian for the Department of Defense. After taking early retirement, John took over his dad's business, running the Park Place Apartments (formerly his grandfather's lumber yard) in Albion.
Always dependable, good natured, and civic-minded, John was an Eagle Scout, past commander of the American Legion, Patrick Leo Hanlon Post 55, past president of the local Rental Property Owner's Association, and served various offices on St. Paul Lutheran Church's board. He loved to putter, fixing things and helping people, whether at home, at Park Place, or with family. He played the trombone, the accordion, harmonica, and the concertina. John had such strong faith in God, and he reflected the light of Jesus to those he met. He spent free time with friends and family fishing, camping, and hunting, sharing his love of the woods, lakes, and nature.
John was the anchor for his family, and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Memorial donations are welcomed to Heartland Hospice, St. Paul Lutheran Church, the
Alzheimer's Association, or the American Legion Post 55.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, in Albion, from 10:30 a.m. to noon, followed by the funeral service at noon, and a luncheon afterward in the church's Luther Hall. Another graveside service will be held at Riverside Cemetery in Albion, on the following Saturday, June 21, 2025, at 11 a.m.
