Betty Jean Samuel Bowman

BOWMAN
KERNERSVILLE
Our beloved mother and wife of Lindsay Bowman has departed this life to be with her Lord, where she can personally experience these words from 1 Corinthians 2:9: "No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has been conceived what God has prepared for those who love Him." She passed early Tuesday morning, March 31, 2026, at Forsyth Medical Center.
Betty was born in Winston-Salem, NC, to the late Mozelle Southern, and her step-father was Thomas Samuel. She graduated in 1954 from Hanes High School and went to work in the Personnel Department at Hanes Hosiery on Ivy Avenue, Winston-Salem. Betty later worked in the office at RJ Reynolds on Main Street and then at St. Paul's Episcopal Church. After the birth of her third child, she was asked to help with the beginning of Downtown Ministry in the Reynolds building. She was invited later to work as the secretary to Jack Horner, then the manager of Northwestern Bank in Walkertown, where she began a career lasting 26 years.
Betty loved working at Northwestern, (which merged with First Union), especially for Harvey Dillon, her boss and her friend. She enjoyed her co-workers and met so many customers who became friends, sharing so many happy memories of her career. She also made life long friends through her 15 years as a Hospice volunteer.
She was a kind and sweet woman to all who met her, and was especially proud of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; and she loved spending time with her family and her church family at Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Belews Creek, where she was a founding member (then Rock Hill Baptist Mission) and held many offices including Secretary-Treasurer, Sunday School Teacher, VBS Director, choir member, WMU Director, and she was dedicated to the church since 1964.
She will be so missed by her beloved husband of 70 years, Lindsay, whom she married on March 9, 1956; also, her son Michael (Rita) Bowman, and her two daughters, Linda (Ronnie) Vernon and Laura (Tom) Gorycki; five grandchildren, who were dearly loved: Stephanie (Chris) Glasgow, Chris Tuttle, Justin Ackers, Krystal (Byron) Laughlin, and Jessica Bowman; her seven great-grandchildren were adored by her: Ashleigh Ziglar, Emily Glasgow, Amelia and Kaydence Tuttle, and their mother, Angela Tuttle, Everly Laughlin, and Kaylee and Bristol Laughlin.
There will be a 2 pm funeral service held on Friday, April 3, 2026, at Burroughs Chapel with Pastor Justin Duncan officiating. Burial will follow on Monday, April 6, 2026, at Garden of Memory, Walkertown.
The family will receive friends on Friday, April 3, 2026, from 1 to 2 pm at Burroughs Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to either Mount Calvary Baptist Church: PO Box 563, Walkertown, NC 27051, or to East Stokes Outreach Ministry: PO Box 973, Walnut Cove, NC 27052.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Priddy Manor for their loving care of our Mother. We would also like to thank the kind and caring doctors and nurses on the Ninth Floor of Forsyth Hospital.
"Death takes the body, God takes the soul; our mind holds the memories, our heart keeps the love, Only Faith lets us know we will meet again."
