DeeEtta Gail McConnell, 81, of Winston-Salem, passed away on March 19, 2026 under the care of Kate B Reynolds Hospice. Born in Waynesville, N.C., she was the daughter of William Lee Hicks Sr. and Anna Dee Kingsmore Hicks, both deceased.

Dee is survived by her daughter, Sarah Peeples and husband, Early (Red) Peeples; her granddaughter, Isabella (Bella) Peeples; her brother, Chris Hicks and wife, Sarah Hicks, of Kernersville, N.C. Surviving nieces include Deanna, Abbey and husband, Rick, and Emma; her great-niece, Eloise; nephews, Jon and wife, Heidi, Joe, Brian, and Sam.

Dee was preceded in death by six siblings, Carolyn, William Jr., Sharon, Elizabeth, Susan, and Cindy, whose surviving spouses include Jeff, Don, and Terri.

Although retired, early in life Dee was a waitress, welder with ITT Grinnell, long-time proprietor of Ann's Place and baker at Lowe's Foods. She loved cooking, puzzles and diamond paintings. Dee was devoted to family and a dedicated Jehovah's Witness having been baptized on July 16, 2010.

A memorial service celebrating Dee's life, including visitation and service, will be held at Pierce-Jefferson Funeral Home. Address is 213 W. Mountain St. Kernersville NC 27284 on March 28, 2026, visitation at 2 p.m. and service beginning at 3 p.m. with Brother LeGrand Davis officiating.
