Ruth Stone Butner, 89, of Pfafftown, passed away on Thursday, March 19, 2026. Born on September 6, 1936, in Winston Salem, she was the daughter of the late William and Clara Stone. Ruth was the loving wife of the late Harry Butner.
Ruth retired from Hanes Hosiery/Sara Lee with 30-plus years of service. During her time with the company, she worked as an executive secretary and administrative support for Senior Executives in many divisions. She enjoyed horses, crossword puzzles, cooking and baking. Ruth enjoyed the outdoors and spending time at the pool and beach. She was a member of Pfafftown Baptist Church, where she was active with her Sunday School Class.
In addition to her parents and husband, Ruth was preceded in death by her daughter, Cheryl Klein; brother, Lesley Stone; sister, Doris Sprinkle; and her fur babies, Bear and Katie.
Ruth is survived by her two sons, Danny Joyner and wife Debbie, Ronnie Joyner and wife Lena; stepsons, Marty Butner and wife Teresa, Randy Butner and wife Melissa; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous other family members.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Rose Tara Senior Living and Mountain Valley Hospice for their wonderful care and support of Ruth.
The family will receive friends on Monday, March 23. 2026, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Vogler Funeral Home at Forsyth Memorial Park. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at Voglers. Interment will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Rose Tara Senior Living Activity Fund or Mountain Valley Hospice.

My heart was sad when I heard about the passing of Ruth and also sad because I was not able to attend her family visitation or service. When I would visit my cousin at Rose Tara, I also got to see Ruth as well when she was not sleeping. I don't think she actually knew who I was but would always tell me she loved me and I would her as well. She was such a sweet and kind lady with a beautiful smile and big loving heart. I always enjoyed seeing her at church while she was able to attend. She was a very special part of our church family so she will be missed by me and so many others. May our Heavenly Father, who now surrounds Ruth with His Holy Presence, also enfold you with His Comfort & Peace as you continue your healing journey.
