Carolyn Potter Obituary
Carolyn Ann (Moore) Potter died unexpectedly at three minutes before midnight on February 20, 2025, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She was born on April 3, 1946, to Anne Geraldine Raidt, mother, and Marion Ellwin Moore, father. Her family of origin also included her older brother, Butch Moore. Carolyn lived in Bethany, Oklahoma, all her life. She graduated from Bethany High School in 1964; soon thereafter she married her high school sweetheart, John Wayne Crawford. Together they made a family with their two sons John Wayne and Rob. In the late 1970s, John and Carolyn parted ways; about a decade later, Carolyn married Leroy Wayne Potter.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Marion E. and Ann G. Moore; brother, Butch Moore of Warr Acres, and her beloved spouse, Leroy Potter.
She is survived by her sons, John Wayne Crawford, Jr. of Bethany, Oklahoma, and Robert Ellwin Crawford of Edmond, Oklahoma; her sister-in-law, Barbara Moore of Warr Acres; grandchildren, Olivia Holder and Elisha Holder. She is also survived by a niece, a nephew, cousins, and many friends.
Carolyn had a great smile, a distinct laugh, and she loved to connect with people. Her favorite movie was The Wizard of Oz and she was an avid collector of Wizard of Oz memorabilia. Carolyn enjoyed time with her family, preparing for Christmas, and most especially OU football! For more than 30 years she was a season ticket holder.
Carolyn also worked at Walmart for more than 30 years. Prior to her time at Walmart, she spent time serving pizza at Pizza Rama and Pizza Inn. She also worked at Hertz, and was proud of her brief stint working the front desk of the Skirvin. Carolyn never allowed her job to define her; diligent as she was in her work, she was equally diligent in her play. Carolyn could be most spirited about her leisure time. In addition to her collection of Wizard of Oz items, she was in numerous bowling leagues, and she crocheted more than a few Afghans.
Most of all Carolyn valued her relationships. From her customers at work, to the new store supervisor she'd have to begrudgingly break-in, to her friends at the store, to her beloved OU tailgating family, Carolyn enjoyed spending time with her people. She was smart and funny, soft-spoken but loud when she wanted to be. She was humble, sometimes to a fault. She was tenacious and strong willed, generous and tightfisted, frugal and funny.
Carolyn had many roles in life and she was especially pleased to spend her later years as a grandma. Carolyn Ann Potter left this life too soon. She will be greatly missed.
The Rev. Kelley Becker will preside at the celebration of life service to be held Saturday, March 1, 11:00 a.m. at Mercer Adams Funeral Service in Bethany, Oklahoma.
