BOONVILLE/LOWVILLE – Donald C. Wahl, 85, of Denslow Drive, Boonville, formerly of River Road, Lowville, passed away on Tuesday July 15, 2025 at Lewis County General Hospital.
The funeral will be at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, July 25, 2025 at Iseneker Funeral Home, Lowville, with Pastor Wayne Arnold officiating. Burial with military honors will follow the service in Beaches Bridge Cemetery. A gathering at the Lewis County Marine Corp League will immediately follow the burial, all are welcome. Any food donations may be brought directly to the Marine Corp League on Friday beginning at 10:00 a.m. Calling hours are from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. prior to the funeral service at the funeral home. Contributions in Donald's name may be made to Lewis County Hospital Foundation in C/O Palliative Care Room, 7785 North State Street, Lowville, NY 13367.
He is survived by his wife, Helen; two daughters, Bernadette (Wendell) Garrison of Lowville and Angela (Joseph) Bauer of Greig; two siblings, Allen (Mary) Wahl of Port Leyden and Ida Bates of Lowville; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He is predeceased by his first wife, Bernice G. Wahl; a daughter, Teresa Kraeger; a grandson, Michael Garrison, who died in infancy; one brother, Walter Wahl; and one brother-in-law, Thomas Bates.
Donald was born on November 22, 1939 in Redwood, a son of the late Claude and Elizabeth Jarvis Wahl. Donald graduated from Lowville Academy Central School in 1958 enlisted in the United States Army, serving with the Field Artillery unit and Army Reserves until 1966. On June 4, 1960, he married Bernice G. Griffith at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Boonville, with Rev. Donovan officiating, a blessed union lasting 54 years until Mrs. Wahl's passing on September 6, 2014. Donald worked at Victory Market and Bartell's Shoe Store for a short time before going to work as a machine tender at Georgia Pacific in Lyons Falls, retiring in 2001 after 37 years when it closed. On August 11, 2018 he married Helen M. Baker Hutchins at the Boonville First Presbyterian Church with Pastor Aggie Walker officiating.
Donald enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson years ago, dancing, golfing, traveling, and spending time with his family.
Donald was a former communicant of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Lowville. He was a member of the BPOE #1605, Lowville Lodge of Lowville and Northern Cruisers Car Club.
