Martha Galloway Obituary

Martha Lee Linville Galloway formerly of rural Mellott, died July 17, 2025 in Wellbrooke of Crawfordsville, at the age of 98. She was born in rural Montgomery County Indiana, September 9, 1926 daughter of the late John Z. and Alma Fretz Linville. She was raised and helped on a grain and cattle farm south of Mellott. Following graduation from Richland Township High School in Newtown in 1944, she attended Purdue University for one year, before marrying Chester L. Galloway in the Mellott United Church of Christ, September 9, 1945. Following their marriage they lived in the Stone Bluff community for several years until returning to her family farm south of Mellott. She and Chester farmed together, along with tending a large garden, preserving much of the produce and raising four daughters. For several years she baked and decorated cakes for all occasions. She was well known for her homemade yeast rolls, cinnamon rolls, noodles, pies and was active in the church. Surviving are: daughters: Kathryn Jane (Terry) Smith of rural Lafayette, Karen Jean (Andy) Biddle of Crawfordsville and Patricia L. Galloway (Kenny Flick) of rural Waveland. She also leaves eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Martha was preceded in death by her husband Chester, daughter Suellen Galloway, son-in-law Michael Bachner, great-grandson Heath G. Biddle and brother John Linville. Graveside services will be held later this fall in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Covington. Memorial contributions are suggested to Fountain County 4-H.
