William Hensley Obituary

William "Chick" Ronald Hensley, a beloved father, grandfather, veteran, and dedicated public servant, passed away on May 12, 2025, at the age of 87. Born on August 3, 1937, in Asheville, North Carolina, Chick was a pillar in his community, known for his warmth, integrity, and unwavering commitment to the people he served. Chick's legacy began with his enlistment in the United States Navy on May 29, 1963, where he attained the rank of Chief Petty Officer and served with honor during the Vietnam War, earning the Bronze Star for his bravery. Upon his discharge on September 17, 1974, Chick returned to Bruce, Mississippi, where he would become an influential figure in local governance. For 16 years, he served as the town's police chief, tirelessly working to ensure the safety and security of his community. Following his time in law enforcement, he dedicated four years to serving as the mayor of Bruce, where he continued to champion the needs and interests of his fellow citizens. Chick was also deeply involved in various organizations, including the Banner Masonic Lodge and the Shriners Hospital, but his commitment to service extended to the V.F.W. Post 5571, where he held the roles of quartermaster and commander as a lifetime member. His contributions to the community were matched only by his love for golf, which he pursued with passion, often sharing the sport with his family. Chick is survived by his daughter, Penny Mask of Pontotoc, MS, along with his cherished grandchildren: Ashley Mask, Austin Mask, Sydney Mask, Brad Hensley, Jenna Hillhouse. His enduring love for his family will continue to inspire those who knew him. Chick was preceded in death by his wife; Dorothy Evelyn Moorehead Hensley, a son, William Micheal Hensley, father, Edwin Fred Hensley, mother, Hazel Lucille Roberts Hensley, brother, James Hensley, sisters, Doris Harrell, and Lee Cole A public viewing will be held at Parker Memorial Funeral Home on May 19, 2025, at 12:00 PM. Chick was a good friend. Meet him in Memphis when he came to the VA Hospital with my Uncle Fred Murphree. For years he made that trip with Fred. He was a great friend to Fred. Chick was fun to be around. He was always joking around, telling his stories, he was fun to be around. He will be missed.
