Dr. Abraham B. Trinidad of Co. Spgs. died peacefully in his sleep in his homeland of the Philippine Islands. A child survivor of the WWII Japanese occupation, he emigrated to the United States in 1968 and proudly served the US Dept of Agriculture as a veterinarian for "36 years, 11 months, and 5 days."
He gloried in being "an eccentric, a contrarian, and an enforcer," and jockeying for the social spotlight. He enjoyed live jazz, salsa dancing, quoting poetry, singing karaoke, watching movies, driving long distances, listening to loud music, and sipping tequila and amaretto in equal parts. He played the violin, tried to learn the trombone, and dabbled in fencing.
He was proud to become a US citizen and gleefully corrected natural-borns' English grammar and American history. He was a successful negotiator through the basic techniques of humor and wearing down.
The oldest of seven siblings, he played the parental role for many: His only sister, youngest brother, nephews and nieces, and step-daughters. He raised two sons as his own. As a Lolo, he enjoyed providing meals, giving rides, and supporting the extra-curricular activities of his grandchildren.
His life ended where it began, on the property where his father started a school which his brother now superintends. He brought joy and generosity to the students, teachers, and helpers, all of whom mourn his death with heavy hearts.
A memorial service will be held at Faith Presbyterian Church, on March 16 at 2:00 PM.
