Albert Stafford Obituary

Albert Richard "Bud" Stafford, 72, passed away in his home in Chipita Park on June 1, 2013. Bud was born on July 13, 1940 in Oakland, California to Albert and Charlotte Frankeburger Stafford. He was raised on the family farm in Lebanon, Missouri until the drought in the '50's when the family moved to Denver, Colorado. In 1969 he moved to Colorado Springs and made the Ute Pass area his home. Over the next 40 years Bud owned and operated Bud Stafford Jewelry in both Colorado Springs and Manitou Springs. Bud was a man who always loved what he did, and was a well respected gold and silversmith. He took great pride in his work and passed along his skills and knowledge to many students. Always an outdoorsman, he was an avid hunter, fly-fisherman and rockhound. Bud was happiest when he was camping in the Colorado Mountains with his family and friends. Left to honor his memory are his wife of 41 years, Kathleen; two sons, Kirk Thomas (Erin) of Port Orchard, Washington, Josh Michael of Durango, Colorado; 3 grandchildren, Logan, Teagan, and Dylan; brother, John Thomas Stafford of Denver, Colorado; and nieces and nephews. Bud was a wonderful husband, an amazing father, a loving grandfather, and a true friend. Following cremation, his ashes will be scattered in the Colorado Mountains. A celebration of his life will be held June 15th between 1:00 and 4:00pm, at the Hagan Family Home, 7910 Forest Road in Cascade, Colorado. The family wishes to thank Pikes Peak Hospice for the wonderful care and support that they provided during this time, and asks that donations be made to Pikes Peak Hospice and Palliative Care Center in lieu of flowers.

We have known Bud for the past 25 years. He has designed quite a few pieces of fine jewelry for us and fixed an unknown amount. He was a true friend as well as an excellent jeweler. He will be greatly missed. Best of wishes to his family.

My favorite rings are the 2 that Bud designed for me. I always think of him when I wear them which is almost daily. One of my best memories of Bud is the day this southern raised man spoke to me in perfect Spanish. He shared with me that he didn't often get to practice the language but was a dedicated student. I loved Bud for the rugged individualist he was. My sympathy and prayers to Kathy and sons.

Another thing wrong with Manitou, Bud Stafford is missing from the landscape. We could always drop in and get anything we needed from him. My father has beautiful pieces he ordered from him. Rest in peace, Bud Stafford. God bless his family with comfort and peace at this time of loss.

I am glad to have known Bud. I met him when I was a teenager- he was this big burley biker who was really just a teddy bear of a man. He was also a true artist. I am privileged to have pieces of his work. I could call him or see him at times through the years and we could just pick up where we left off. My love to Cathy and the boys and the entire family. Rest in Peace dear friend.
