Anna Hamblin Obituary

Anna M. Hamblin, a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, died peacefully at Pikes Peak Hospice in Colorado Springs surrounded by her children. Diagnosed eight months ago with cancer, she succumbed on April 1, 2007. "Oma" was born in Darmstadt, Germany on January 8, 1928, the only daughter of Karl and Margarethe Ruppert. Her father died when she was a young girl, and when WWII started, she, her mother, and her brother were displaced and uprooted from their home following Allied bombing, which ultimately led to their separation from one another. Alone, she endured first hand the horrors of war. She married Ralph Hamblin in Darmstadt in 1953. Ralph was an Army soldier, and together they lived in the Far East, the US, and Germany during a 28 year military career before settling in Colorado Springs in 1973. She was a gentle, kind, and loving person who saw the best in everyone. Quick to laugh, she delighted in practical jokes. Her greatest joy was her family on whom she lavished praise, encouragement, and love. She doted on her offspring, and her children knew that their mother was unlike any other. She listened to them, shared their disappointments, and took great pride in their accomplishments. She loved children and dogs, daily walks, coffee ice cream, and angels, and she saw silver lining in every dark cloud. Her wise counsel, patience, kindness, smile, and laughter will be deeply missed. Oma was preceded in death by her husband (2003), father (1937), mother (1984), and her brother (2003). She is survived by her children: Ralph Hamblin, Grand Junction, CO; Dorothy Johnson, and Debra Negrete, both of Colorado Springs, CO; six grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held at Mountain View Mortuary, 2350 Montebello Square Dr., Colorado Springs, CO on Thursday, April 5, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. Relatives and friends are welcome from 9:00 a.m. until the hour of services for visitation. Oma will be interred at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery of Western Colorado in Grand Junction, where her husband Ralph was buried in 2003. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Pikes Peak Hospice and Palliative Care of Colorado Springs.

Rudolph / Alma Hamblin

April 3, 2007

Ralph, Dy, and Debbie and all, it is with great sadness and fond remembrances of your Mother as I checked the Gazette Obits this A.M.
Incidentally, as I had the radio on in the office as I was trying to print this for others, the radio station played, "Farther Along" a song, I remember they sang as Mayme and I attended a funeral before we left Kentucky for Indiana back in 1943. A coincidence or maybe something from the lord at the appropriate time! Then they played the "Old Rugged Cross!", also very appropriate at this time in our lives! As I look at her picture, I remember happy times and the small jokes she would play on me at times, something for one to laugh and to remember!

May the Lord Bless you all and wish we could be with you in difficult moments and will be with you in our thoughts and prayers!

Love to you all,
Uncle Rudolph and Aunt Alma
