Evelyn Ruth Koprowski (Nee Rojas), 79 of
Colorado Springs, CO passed peacefully home with her husband and dear friend on January 4th, 2026, following a catastrophic fall and injury from which she never fully recovered. She is survived by her husband Richard (Dick), sister Iraida (Edie Pajak), nieces Victoria, Christina, Lisa, and Patti, nephews Marcus, Pierre and Kevin, great nieces Richelle, Rebecca, and Rhonda, great nephews Justin, Ryan, and Michael, and great niece Ava. She was preceded in death by her brother Felix (Gomez), sister Margarita (Ramirez), and great nephew Richard (Martinez).
Evelyn was born December 18th, 1946, in Arecibo, Puerto Rico; the daughter of the late Casimiro and Margarita (Rosario) Rojas.
Her family moved to the United States, residing in
Chicago, IL, when she was 4 years old. She Attended Holy Name Cathedral and St. Philip Gregory Chalmers parishes and graduated from John Marshall High School in 1965. After high school, she became a proficient bank officer, bookkeeper and accountant for nearly 10 years. This is where she met her husband, Dick, while employed at Xerox in 1974. She will always be an avid Chicago Bears fan!
Evelyn and Dick lived in many states and cities including:
Rochester, NY;
Dallas, TX; and then to
Colorado Springs, CO in 1988 where she remained for the duration of her life with Dick.
Evelyn had a variety of hobbies including: macramé, hook-latch rug designs, an avid horticulturist of her many plants, and was very creative with her 50+ year old SEARS Kenmore sewing machine. She loved to travel and drive the 32-foot RV, towing a vehicle, throughout most of the lower 48 states visiting with many friends along the way. She also acquired a love for golf and even scored a hole-in-one at the Patty Jewett Plains course in 2011! Her love of home-cooked meals, especially ethnic dishes, while entertaining guests, saturated the house with wonderful aromas.
However, Evelyn's main passion was serving her Lord and Savior. She dedicated her life to helping the less fortunate and homeless in the community and encouraging others to do so as well.
As a parishioner of Our Lady Guadalupe for 18 years, Evelyn assisted with the youth group, attending three World Youth Day pilgrimages to Denver, Rome Italy, and Ontario, Canada. She was also a Eucharistic Minister, Lector, Cursillista, Marriage/Wedding Prep and Marian House Kitchen coordinator, and always helped with the church environment.
Her spiritual journey led her to become a parishioner at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish where she continued to be the Coordinator of Volunteers for Holy Trinity and later, Black Forest Lutheran Church at the Marian House Kitchen for another 18 years. Under her leadership, it has been said that her volunteer crew "worked like a well-oiled machine".
Evelyn devoted much of her time to Catholic Charities of Central Colorado in several capacities advocating as a volunteer collecting food and clothing, promoting many fund-raising events, especially the Capital Campaign for the new Kitchen and Resource Center, and encouraging others to support and care for the less fortunate and homeless by utilizing their God-given Time, Talent, and/or Treasure.
She treated everyone with utmost respect and made sure that everyone felt welcomed no matter what. Her most famous quotes were: "We wanted to do something everlasting", "God is Good, All the Time; All the Time, God is Good!", "The least we can do is leave something to give for the future" and "You got that right!". Her mantra was "One day at a time sweet Jesus, that's all I'm asking of you" as she sang it frequently throughout the day!
A vigil service will be held at Swan-Law Funeral Directors (Chapel) on Tuesday, February 24th from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. A Memorial Mass will be held on Wednesday, February 25th at Holy Trinity Catholic Church at 11:00am.
In lieu of flowers, a request for donations to Catholic Charities of Central Colorado/Marian House Kitchen has been made.
