Annena Shaffer Obituary

Annena J. Shaffer passed away January 20, 2013 surrounded by her loving family. She was a Colorado Springs resident for 28 years. Annena Jeroma Perrelle was born March 4, 1937 to Fortunato and Maria (Caruso) Perrelle in Terra Haute, Indiana. She graduated from Schulte Catholic High School in 1955. She met and was married to Roy Edward Shaffer November 28, 1959 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church; in fact, she was born, baptized, received her elementary education, confirmed, and married at Sacred Heart. She was a long time member of the Peterson AFB MCCW (Military Council of Catholic Women). She was known as a woman that loved God and country, the only daughter and fifth child of Italian immigrants. Her parents so loved their adopted country they never returned to their roots. She, however, traveled all over the world, living in several foreign countries, some more than once, while accompanying her husband during his service in the United States Air Force. Annena was exceptionally family oriented. She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Roy; children: Roy (Shirley) Shaffer Jr. of Rome, Georgia; Summer (Mitch) Hamdeed of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Ronald (Debbie) Shaffer of Acton, California; Dawn (Derek) Sloan of Woodland Hills, California; Roman (Hiroko) Shaffer, of Irvine, California; grandchildren: Jonathan Shaffer; Everett, Elliott, Elijah, and Annena Hamdeed; Atticus Shaffer; Ralph and Sam Sloan; Tsukasa, Tsuzuki, Kana, and Mina Shaffer. Also, Eric Hamdeed, Sandra Walker, Debbie Turner, and Kenneth Del Mese; great grandchildren: BayLee and KateLynn Shaffer; Cory and Alex Turner; Christine and Ben Walker; Melanie Carmata and Reggie Hamdeed and a large extended family of cousins, nieces and nephews scattered about the country. She was preceded in death by her parents, and brothers Anthony, Joseph, George, and Nicholas. She will be lovingly remembered as a gracious, kind, generous and devoted woman who valued all living things. A Memorial Mass will be held in Annena's honor at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at the Peterson Air Force Base Community Chapel, 5134 Cathedral Drive. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the charity of choice. Online Condolences: ShrineOfRemembrance.com

As William Makepeace Thackery stated; "Mother is the name for God in the hearts and minds of little children." Annena was that kind of loving mother.
