Memorial For Arnie Jacobs and Mary Lou Jacobs

Inseparable in life, Arnie and Mary Lou Jacobs are now together with their Savior, having passed away within a year of one another. Mary Lou died at the age of 92 on May 25th, 2020 and Arnie on June 23rd 2021, a few days before his 98th birthday.

After Mary Lou's passing, complications due to the COVID-19 pandemic prevented a planned celebration; the family will now honor the two in a joint service on October 9th at 10:30 am at First Presbyterian Church of Colorado Springs.

Active members of First Presbyterian Church of Colorado Springs for four decades, they shared a deep commitment to living out and to sharing their Christian faith. They were "lifers" with the Young Life ministry, from which Arnie retired after 55 years of service to young people throughout the U.S. and in the UK.

Family and friends will most remember Mary Lou as a devoted wife (Arnie's #1 fan), a loving mother and grandmother and a steadfast friend. She had a ready smile an unquenchable positive attitude and was known especially to her family as being game for anything.

A decorated Marine Corps veteran (Purple Heart), Arnie served in the Pacific Theatre with the Second Marine Division. Involved in combat on Saipan, Tinian and Okinawa, Arnie spoke very little about his war experience until late in his life. When his service record afforded him access to the Cheyenne Shadows golf course at Fort Carson, he found a community of current and former members of the armed forces who welcomed and honored him and Mary Lou (who often accompanied him on the course).

Arnie and Mary Lou are survived by son Larry (Mary Feil-Jacobs) and daughters Suzie Swenson (Terry) and Julie Babeu (Peter); seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Arnie is also survived by brother Duane and sisters Roma Ruth (John) and Dorthea Otto (Bradley).

Donations may be made in remembrance of Arnie and Mary Lou Jacobs to First Presbyterian Church of Colorado Springs or to the Young Life Campership Fund.
