Arnold "Arnie" Burton was born in Western Nebraska to Vernon & Sylva Burton. He attended The Colorado Springs School after the family moved from Wellfleet to Colorado Springs in the 1940s. From his farming & ranching roots, he went on to earn his real estate broker's license in the 1960's, opening & operating Burton Realty until his retirement.
He joined the Pikes Peak Range Riders in 1973, participating in 35 annual rides & performing for many years w/the Pivots drill team. He served in most of the group's positions over the years including Ride Director 1978. He shared camaraderie in horsemanship, an enjoyment of the Colorado high country, even some lay-over day competitive pole-bending & fun. A highlight was serving on the trails committee where he explored & laid out trails for the annual ride.
Arnold resided in Black Forest for over 40 years where he built his home & enjoyed hosting family, serving homemade meals & vanilla ice cream, saddling his Quarter horses for a ride, gardening, building bird houses & watching the deer that frequented his property. He rarely turned down an opportunity for fishing or upland bird hunting.
He touched many lives w/his sensible approach to life, realistic & positive nature, relatability, consistent communication & his genuine support.
He is survived by 3 siblings: Brother Robert (Bonnie) Burton, & sisters Inez Fickel & Vera Grace (Don) Moore, 3 children: Son Douglas Burton, daughters Stacey Moore & Natalie (Pete) Ballweber, 4 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren & many beloved nieces & nephews.
