Betty Meyering Obituary

Betty Meyering was a loving, devoted wife to her husband, Chet, an incredibly giving mom to her children, Michelle and Mark, and awesome grandma to Jenifer, Bryan, Ryan, Linzi and Beau, and finally, a great-grandma to Jace Chet whom she thoroughly adored. She was a fantastic hostess and loved her friends. Betty was born in Dayton, Ohio on September 10, 1927 to Rev. and Mrs. Olin Chivington. She went to be with her Lord and Savior June 14, 2007 after a long bout with Alzheimer's Disease. After receiving her degree in Home Economics from Olivet Nazarene University in 1951, and completing her Masters Degree from the University of Illinois in 1955, she and her husband, Dr. Chester Meyering, moved to Colorado Springs to teach. Betty began teaching Home Economics at South Junior High School in 1956 and finished her teaching career at Mitchell High School in 1983. For almost a quarter century she served as social chairman at First Church of the Nazarene where she was a member. For another quarter century, she served in various capacities at Trinity Nazarene Church. For many of these years she also volunteered her service for the Salvation Army Women's Auxiliary. She had a strong faith in Jesus, her Lord and Savior, and made Him central in her life. Surviving are her husband, Chet, whom she married in 1951; a daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Greg Isham of Colorado Springs; a son, Mark "M G" Meyering of Jonesboro, Arkansas; five grandchildren; one great-grandson; and three sisters and one brother from Ohio. A private family burial service will be held at Evergreen Cemetery. A celebration of Betty's life is scheduled for Friday, June 22 at 10:00 AM at Trinity Church of the Nazarene, 5055 El Camino Drive, in Colorado Springs. The family especially wants to thank Odyssey House Hospice for the gracious care they gave our mom and wife. Expressions of love, kindness and tender compassion in were evident in everything they did. We love you all. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Voice of the Truth, PO Box 15013, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80935, a Christian ministry to Arab speaking peoples around the world.

Chet, we are so sorry to hear about Bety's passing, and offer our sincere sympathy to you and your family. You will remember that we were neighbors for a short time on Marion Drive when we first moved there. We lived there for 40 years, and moved to a patio home in 2001. I saw Betty several times at the MEF seminar, and I am so happy that I had that opportunity in recent years. We wish you and your family all the best in the years to come.

Like Brian Cook , I too was a Mitchell football player who took her class " Boys Foods " in 1968. What a hoot. It was a great experience , lots of smiles, laughter and scratch recipes. That was 39 years ago and I am smiling today at the memories . Thank you Mrs Meyering, you really were a teacher who cared about her kids and made a difference in our lives

Chet, we were so saddened to read of Betty's passing. I can tell by reading the other notes that she touched many lives. Isn't that what we are all wanting to do as teachers.
Hey, Don Green, Don Wilson, Harry Zimbrick, Wayne stegman, Tom Hergenreter, Gene and others meet for lunch on Mondays at Sheldon's on North Nevada. You should join them sometime.
With much love and sympathy,
Cindy and Gene Blackney

It was with great sadness that I saw Mrs. Meyering's obituary today while looking for that of a friend from Mitchell High School who recently passed away. Mrs. Meyering taught an extremely popular course at Mitchell known as "Single Living." I'll never forget it, or her, because she taught us all about what we'd face once we left the confines of our homes and had to cook, clean, and even sew. I think she got a kick out of seeing me and my fellow football team members mending clothes, baking lattice top cherry pies, and planning and cooking meals, but the lessons she taught me have lasted over almost 30 years. My wife always said that she would have liked to meet the famous Betty Meyering, the woman who in turn made her life easier. My sister also helped teach her class at one point as an assistant and owes many thanks to her as well. She'll be very sorry to hear of her passing. To her extended family I would like to extend my deepest sympathies for your loss. She was a kind, patient, and wonderful woman.

Nana-You were simply the best! You created so many memories for me and left such a special mark in my life. You will be thought of everyday and missed more than you will ever know. We love you and we will see you in heaven soon!
