Betty Waldron Obituary

Waldron
Betty Lois Waldron
September 7, 2023

Betty died peacefully in her home in Colorado Springs. She was born in Ashland, Kentucky to Roxie and Earl Yocum. She graduated from Ashland High School and Sullins College before working at Ashland Oil to support Milt in his medical training. They married in 1955. During Milt's service as an Air Force flight surgeon, they lived in Bitburg, Germany where Betty bought her first Hummel figurine and began her lifetime love for collections. A dedicated community member, Betty was active in the El Paso County Medical Society Auxiliary for almost 30 years. Visitors to the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum would have also encountered Betty in her longtime role as the volunteer Museum Shop Coordinator. Betty loved the ocean, sitting in the sun, traveling, shopping, and meeting new people. She and Milt were extremely fortunate to travel around the world by ship with Semester at Sea for over 25 years, meeting many lifelong friends. In addition to serving as the Lifelong Learning Coordinator, she was lovingly referred to on the ship as "Mom Betty" and was always willing to help where needed. Betty adored animals and was passionate in supporting animal rescue, adopting many dogs from the Pikes Peak Humane Society throughout the years. Betty was preceded in death by Milt. She is survived by her daughter Cindy (Doug) and son Brent (Angie), five grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. Friends are invited to remember her with gifts to the Pikes Peak Humane Society or the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo.

I moved to Colorado in 1979 with Betty & Milty's niece Kathie and when we arrived we were so lucky to stay with them and Cindy and Brent. I felt like I was living in a TV show with the best family ever! They were so very good to me and sent me Christmas presents every year for decades. I loved and admired Betty so much and truly appreciate the time I got to spend with them. I am glad she is with Milty.

Love always, Skindy

My wife, Dawn, and our daughters, Rachael and Riley, knew Milt and Betty well from our frequent voyages with SAS over the years. I'm sure it has been shared that Betty is with Milt again, and that brings happiness in these sad days. Both of them were icons and the most humble and generous couple I have ever met.

We remember one time many years ago that Dawn had a really bad insect bite reaction, wasn't getting much help from doctors here and we were leaving imminently for the ship. Dawn said she would just have Milt look at it on the ship. (She had more faith in Milt than the doctors here!) We boarded and Betty was there in Purser's Square, holding court and catching up with friends. She saw us, gave us all hugs and Dawn shared that she needed to see Milt. Betty immediately walked over to a phone at the field desk, called Milt in the cabin and told him, "Come down here and fix Dawn up! She needs you."

It was so Betty to make you feel comfortable, happy and just smiling the moment you saw her. The world is at a loss without Betty and Milt. Our thoughts, prayers and love and hugs to the entire Waldron family.

Warm regards,
Michael Mariant
