On October 22, 2025, Carol Weissler joined her beloved husband Edwin Weissler in rest. Born in Chicago to Frieda and Albert Klein on July 27, 1933, Carol began a life of adventure when she married Ed in 1953. Ed's career as an Air Force pilot took the growing family across the country and overseas. Son Mark was born in Georgia, daughter Lisa (Marshal) in Texas, Paul and Lynn (Ed) were both born in Washington D.C. Each move offered Carol an opportunity to use her unique people skills to benefit her new community.
In 1974, during an interview about her volunteer service, Carol responded to a question about her hobbies saying, "I think people really are my favorite interest. I like working with people, talking with people, just meeting people." Anyone who has ever met Carol will agree her passion for people never faltered. Whether with family or friends, talking to restaurant servers or store clerks, conversing with strangers standing in line at the grocery store or sitting in a doctor's waiting room, Carol could brighten everyone's day.
Besides being a wonderful partner to husband Ed and mother to her four children, Carol lived a life of service. In 1975, while the family was stationed at Rhein Main Air Force Base in Germany, she was named the Air Force Family Services Coordinator of the Year for U.S. Forces in Europe. When Ed retired from the Air Force and the family settled in Colorado Springs, Carol continued giving back to the community.
Through the years, Carol served as President and board member for the Colorado Springs Chapter of Hadassah and President and board member for the Temple Shalom Sisterhood. In 1991, she received the Hadassah Outstanding Leadership Award. Carol was on the Senior Service Advisory Council for the City of Colorado Springs and an active participant in the Colorado Springs Community Action Plan. She served on the Intergenerational Day Care Center Care Castle board, on the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS) Advisory Board for the Center on Aging and on the Colorado Springs Senior Center Advisory Committee. She also volunteered for the Senior Program at Temple Shalom and the Colorado Springs Senior Center.
On top of her volunteer work, Carol went back to school and, at the age of 55, earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree at UCCS in Human Geography and Community Development with a minor in Gerontology. A straight-A student, her research was instrumental in improving services for seniors living in mobile homes.
Carol's giving spirit will live on in the hearts of her children and their spouses, and loving cousins, nieces and nephews. Her family and friends take great comfort in knowing hers was a life well-lived and will cherish the memories they made together. They are forever grateful to the caregivers who offered comfort and care to Carol during her final months, with a special thank you to her "besties."
Carol will be laid to rest next to her husband Ed at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Temple Shalom, Colorado Springs.
