Catherine Banbury Obituary

February 27, 1920 - February 24, 2008. Katie passed away peacefully on February 24. She was born February 27,1920 in New Orleans to Brooke and Berenice Duncan. She was an art history major at Sophie Newcomb College in New Orleans. In early 1942, she married Lt. Richard C. (Dick) Banbury, a dashing Air Corps fighter pilot and began a life of adventure and travel residing in Japan, France, Germany, Alaska and many other places in the U.S. In each place she lived, she always enjoyed making new friends, the arts, the culture, and the historic sites. After Dick's retirement from the Air Force in 1967, they continued this incredible life, living in Savannah, GA, where she joined P.E.O., again in Germany and finally settling in Colorado Springs in 1976. Katie is survived by her brother, Brooke H. Duncan of New Orleans, her children, John Banbury (Eva) of Mercer Island, WA, and Margaret Brooke Banbury of Redmond, WA as well as her grandchildren, Chris, Julian, Alexander, John Masland and Duncan Masland. She was predeceased by her husband Dick in 1994. Katie will always be remembered for her warm smile, her engaging personality and her positive attitude. She was a self described "Pollyanna", believing everything always "works out for the best". If asked if there was anything she regretted not experiencing in her long and fulfilling life, she would say, "I did it all"! She will be missed by her family and friends, her P.E.O. sisters of Chapter FT and her dear friend, Col. (ret.) Ollie Cellini. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, March 14, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the Shrine of Remembrance "America the Beautiful" Chapel of Roses. A reception will follow at the Olympian Plaza Reception Center, 975 South Union. In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Heart Association or a charity of your choice are suggested.
