Charles Hovasse Obituary

Charlie, a 37 year resident of Widefield, Colorado passed away May 24, 2015 after suffering a stroke. He was born on March 11, 1935 to J. Edmund Hovasse and Mary Ellen Vahey Hovasse.

Mr. Hovasse is survived by four children, David Hovasse, Charlene (Leroy) Llewellyn, Charlie Hovasse, and Tom (Eiko) Hovasse; twelve grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; his sister, Joan Gaff; brothers, Ed Hovasse and Richard (Dianne) Hovasse; sister-in-law, Pauline (Joe) O'Brien; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley; and his eldest daughter, Debbie Hovasse.

Charlie, born and raised in Chelsea Massachusetts, joined the Air Force right after graduating high school. While stationed at the Air Force Academy, Charlie met the love of his life while taking the tour at the Coors Brewery, yep, the Coors Brewery. It was love at first sight, they went on a date the next day, went to church the following day and then Charlie asked Shirley to marry him. Wow! They wed 3 months later and shared an amazing life together for 55 years.

Charlie was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars, and spent 20 years in the Air Force. After retiring in 1972, Charlie started a 20-plus year career in the US Postal Service. Charlie's easy going manner and quick wit made him a favorite on his postal route and with his fellow workers.

Charlie was a devout Catholic and attended St. Dominic's Church and was a long-standing member of the Knights of Columbus. Never one to shy away from fun, Charlie's legacy and antics at the KOC will be remembered for years to come.  Charlie was a fun spirit and he will be sorely missed by his family and friends.

A Rosary and Memorial Mass will be held at 2:30PM, Friday May 29, 2015 at St. Dominic Catholic Church, 5354 U.S. Highway 85, Colorado Springs, Colorado followed by a reception at the church.

I served with Charlie while he was assigned to the 62nd Fighter Interceptor Squadron at K.I. Sawyer AFB in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. He was one of my strongest mentors when we served together. My deepest condolences to his family. I'm sure he will be missed by many.

He will be missed but is going to a far better place and will see many who have gone before him. Football games at the K of C will not be the same. RIP
