Shirley Hovasse Obituary

Shirley Ann Hovasse, aged 74, died surrounded by family and love on September 12, 2012 at home in Widefield Colorado, after a brief struggle with cancer. She was born January 9, 1938 in San Diego, California, the daughter of Ann Jane Caffall and Paul Vaughn Caffall. Growing up in San Diego, Shirley enjoyed playing outdoors with her sister, sports, and drawing local landscapes. A devout catholic, Shirley graduated from Saint Mary's Academy in Los Angeles. Upon graduation, the Caffall family relocated to Denver. At six feet tall, Shirley joined, the popular "Timberline Club", where men had to be over six feet tall and women had to be at least five-eleven. At a Timberline Club event, Shirley met the love of her life, Charles Hovasse, who was stationed at the Air Force Academy. Three months later they were married. As a loving military couple, they traveled the world and produced five children. The couple were happily married for 55 years before Shirley's passing. Shirley was an active member of St. Dominic's Catholic Church. Shirley is survived by her loving husband, Charles; mother, Ann of Colorado Springs; sister, Pauline O'Brien and husband Joe of Englewood, CO; son, David J. Hovasse of Widefield, CO; daughter, Charlene Llewellyn and husband Leroy of Nederland, CO; son, Charles J. Hovasse and wife Anne of Highlands Ranch, CO; son, Thomas W. Hovasse and wife Eiko of San Diego, CA; 12 grand children, 8 great-grand children, and many other extended relatives and close friends. Shirley's eldest daughter, Debra A. Cornell passed away in 2002. There will be a rosary on Sunday September 16, 2012 at 7:00 PM at Saint Dominic's Catholic Church 5354 U.S. Hwy 85 Security, CO. A Memorial Mass will be held Monday September 17, 2012, at 11:00 AM at Saint Dominic's Church, followed by a reception at the Knights of Columbus located at 567 Marquette Dr. Security, CO. 80911.

September 17, 2012

Hi Charlie, I'm so very sorry for your loss. I'm writing this as the memorial service is beginning. You're in my thoughts and prayers. Memories come back as I remember staying with you and "Shirl" (as you called her) in Englewood when David was born. Good memories. May God bless you and your amazing family. From the flower girl at your wedding..

My love and prayers go to all of you. Shirley was a beautiful person. The few times we got together in our adult years, it was like we had just seen each other the day before. I am so sorry for your loss and for the loss to all who knew her.
Love from your cousin, Patsy
