Christopher Condron Obituary

Chris Condron made a guitar sing to the heavens. He could play it all…classical, blues, rock and roll and country. He played in the concerts in Southern California. Won all the honors. Made the good sounds. Played before 50,000. He was a state-ranked tennis player in Texas and a young man who loved the Lakers, the Nuggets, the Broncos, the SMU Mustangs, the Colorado Springs Sky Sox and Survivor Man. An afternoon with National Geographic and studying the stars was magic to him. Cooking was his passion. He could talk spices, flavor, presentation. He could expound on the art of making it magic. It was important to him that you liked it. He was a member of the U.S. Olympic Committee Media Services staff for the U.S. Olympic Festivals from 1986-1995. He was part of the USOC's media services staff for the 2002 Olympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City. Chris was a volunteer for the International Golf Tournament in Castle Pines, Colo., for five years. He was a ball boy for the Southern Methodist University Basketball Team in the 1970s. He was a volunteer for every tennis tournament played at Moody Coliseum in Dallas. He met all the great tennis players of the era, including Jimmy Connors, Martina Navratilova, John McEnroe, Pam Shriver, Vitas Gerilaitis, John Newcombe. Worked in their dressing rooms as a tow-headed, exuberant little kid. They became his heroes. He lived for the Cotton Bowl. The Byron Nelson Golf Tournament. The Southwest Conference Basketball Tournament. He shot pool with Dan Marino at the media hotel for the 1982 Cotton Bowl. Was hugged by Martina Navratilova at the Virginia Slims in the 1970s when he was ball boy. He got his hair tousled by Alexander Gomelski, the coach of the Soviet Union basketball team in 1979. Got to help Apolo Ohno with his media relations in 2002. He lived a life full of incredible sports moments. He saw the sports events of the 1970s, the 1980s, the 1990s and the first 10 years of the new millennium. He won tournaments in Dallas in Taekwondo. That wide range of experiences was present in Chris' work environment. As a young man in Southern California he was a sales executive for a variety of Southern California corporations, rising to the level of Sales Manager, including a stint with QAD, Corp. in Santa Barbara, Calif. He was the director of Public Relations for U.S. Taekwondo Association in Colorado Springs. Chris died in a car crash early Sunday morning. Years before he should have gone. He was born April 10, 1970, in Lubbock, Texas. He attended East Junior High School and Air Academy High School in Colorado Springs, as well as Pikes Peak Community College and Regis College. He was a member of the tennis team at Air Academy High School. Chris was a songwriter, a sponsor in Alcoholics Anonymous. He helped disabled youngsters at a horse ranch. He is survived by his father Bob Condron, director of Media Services for the U.S. Olympic Committee, and brother Mark Condron, senior producer for Indianapolis Motor Speedway Productions. His mother Jane Condron was a teacher in Colorado Springs and Dallas, Texas, a member of the initial Talented and Gifted program in Dallas Independent School District and an accepted member of the Law School at Southern Methodist University. She passed away in 2008. His grandfather Stuart Condron was emcee of the Grand Old Opry and a reporter who covered the V2 Rocket Launch in White Sands, New Mex., in the 1940s, the beginning of the space program that placed a man on the moon. A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, Feb. 17, at 2 p.m., at the Stone Chapel at Woodmen Valley Chapel, 290 Rockrimmon Blvd. If you wish, the family would be grateful of a donation made in Chris's name to Parker Valley Hope, an organization that gives a chance to those who still have a sliver of hope in life. It made a difference in his life. It can make a difference in others. The address is Parker Valley Hope, 22422 E. Main Street, Parker, Colo., 80134.

Chris has been on my mind so hard lately. I like to think he is visiting me so I talk to him and thank him for his friendship, laughter and for his love of family and friends. I miss him so much and he will forever be a part of my life.

It is difficult to understand why someone who had such a zeal for life could be taken at such a young age. Chris was always smiling and joking around to lighten the mood, and was a likeable person that was easy to befriend. He had a firm foundation of what was right and wrong that his parents had instilled in him, in which he would return to despite whatever obstacles that he may have faced in his life.

All of which are admirable qualities, but one that always stood out to me was his unwavering resolute to summon his courage from within and stand up for what he believed to be right. He would hold his ground despite whatever odds he may have faced; a lesson that I learned from Chris over twenty-five years ago, and incorporated into my own life.

A portion of the light in this world was extinguished with Chris’s passing, and he will truly be missed by all that knew him. Chris wouldn’t want people to mourn his loss. He would want them to rejoice in his life, but somehow that makes it that much more difficult for those that were close to him. My deepest sympathies go to his family and his closest friends.

I would like to think that in those last moments the Almighty looked to Chris and said
“Do not fear, for I have redeemed you;
I have called you by name; you are Mine!” - Isaiah 43:1

Cousin Chris, I remember all the holidays spent with you at Mimi and Grampy's house and how excited I was to see you everytime. I was equally excited to see you and your Dad last year when you came to Ventura to visit. You are the coolest cousin anyone could have and a truly great person. I remember bragging to all my friends about how you were the best guitar player ever! You will be dearly missed. Love you man, give Aunt BJ, Aunt Jan, Mimi, and Grampy a huge hug for me. See you soon.....

Chris, I was watching a video that Uncle Mike put together, of a family vacation years ago when you were still a teenager, crazy hair, excited, living life like it was something worth experiencing to the fullest. I smiled often as I watched you, acting silly, smiling, getting others to laugh. That's something I hear that you did a lot of throughout your 40 years on this terrestrial ball. Our life paths have not crossed often, and for that I have regrets, but I think that much of the things you've gotten to experience many people would love to have been you, seeing and doing and living. While your days have come to an end, the lives you've touched keep going, and smiles will still appear on their faces as they remember your humor and enthusiasm. I love you cuz.

Chris,
You were one of my first friends. Thanks for accepting me and giving me perspective. You taught me to rebel sometimes....something I didn't know how to do. I will never forget you!

Bob, I never know Chris personally but I heard about both he and Mark from B.J. when she taught me in 6th grade at Jefferson Elementary back in 91-92. I am so very sorry for your loss. If he was anything like his mom I know he had a great heart. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Chris kept me up way too late one night at the 94 Olympic Festival in Denver talking sports, music, our previous lives in Texas and life in general. There were far too few of those nights, but I'm grateful for those we had. I know Chris is with BJ now & they're up talking late into the night.

Many times over the years you have crossed my mind and my heart. I am truly saddened that we were not able to keep in touch better over the years.

I remember fondly the times we spent hanging out and talking when we were growing up and then as adults we could pick up our conversation just like we had seen each other yesterday.

You will still walk across my mind and heart until our paths cross again.

You will be missed by many, but you will be held in our hearts forever.

I am keeping your family in my prayers.

Our journey will be a little less bright without Chris, who always worked hard to bring sunshine into the lives of friends and strangers alike. I take comfort in the thought that he's now arm in arm with his mother, helping her watch over Bob and Mark. Rest in peace, my friend.

My life will never be the same without my dear, sweet, best friend Christopher. He brought so much joy and laughter to my son James and I. He was a kind, gentle man who loved his family and close friends dearly- with all his heart, who thought his dad was the best thing since sliced bread, who was devastated to have lost his mom so soon. Forever in my heart and most cherished memories my dear friend Chris. Lost but most certainly NEVER forgotten and loved.
