Courtney Chapin Obituary

Courtney Helen Beth Chapin entered this world on March 12, 1982, in Norfolk, Nebraska. She fought a hard battle with Inflammatory Breast Cancer (IBC) for two years and two months, fighting strong every day until she crossed over to her next life on July 15, 2014.

Anyone who knows Las Animas knows that it was too small to contain a spirit like Courtney Beth. She took the opportunity to leave the city limits every minute she could, to take a cruise out south, a Colorado road trip, or to get her favorite meal of the day - 4:00 AM breakfast at the truck stop.

Courtney contained a light that burned so brightly it extended to anyone and everyone fortunate enough to cross her path. Her million-dollar smile lit up every space she entered, and her strong Bahá'í faith anchored her positive energy until it could not be contained any longer. During her short life, Courtney took every chance to explore the world, her footsteps touching land from Verona, Italy, to Rochester, NY, and back home to Colorado.

Courtney's battle with IBC allowed her to establish strong relationships with other breast cancer survivors and the Susan G. Komen Foundation in the Colorado Springs area. She was also Survivor of the Year for the Susan G. Komen Foundation for El Paso County 2013.

Courtney was surrounded by love and friendship throughout her life, but especially during her final months. Courtney lived every moment of life to the fullest, always choosing friendship, fun, and laughter over anything else. Her bright light will forever shine on in all of those blessed enough to have known her love.

She is survived by her mother and stepfather, Jeri and Karl Zimmermann, sister Karen, brother Blair (Rachel), niece Olivia, stepsister Bernadette, and stepbrother Anthony.

A graveside service will held Thursday, July 17, 2014 at 1:00 pm at Evergreen Cemetery. Services handled through Evergreen Funeral Home.
