Delma Mou Obituary

Delma Jane (DJ) Mou, treasured wife, mother and grandmother, passed away after a brief illness on October 24, 2016 surrounded by her family. She was born on July 2, 1927 in Pueblo, CO to Russell Schreiber and Delma Jane Drake Schreiber. A longtime Colorado Springs resident, DJ was proud of her pioneer heritage and its continuing presence in and contributions to El Paso County since her family first settled here in 1862.

DJ had a passion for life, adventure and learning. She celebrated her 89th birthday in July by completing all five zip lines at Seven Falls. An avid alpine skier for over 60 years, she also enjoyed hiking, birding, sailing and aerobics. She volunteered for many years as a docent at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo. Her wide-ranging interest in wildlife, together with her love of travel, took her to Bali, Madagascar, Africa, the Galapagos Islands, Bhutan, Patagonia, Palau, Alaska and many other primitive natural environments around the world, often as part of formal zoological studies. She was a voracious reader, delighting in her book club activities.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory, husband Dr. Thomas W. Mou, children Dr. Richard (Gwen) Wiley, Jr., Russell (Kelly) Wiley, Dr. Susan (Frank Slovick) Mou and Roberta (Guenter Thiel) Mou, and grandchildren Shey Wiley, Greg Slovick, Ellie Hancock, Abby Slovick, and Rachael Mou-Thiel.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Lois F. Roach, and beloved granddaughter, Leah R. Wiley.

She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Services will be private. Friends are welcome to join with our family in celebrating DJ's life at the Garden of the Gods Club and Resort on Friday, November 4th, between 2 and 4 PM.
